| Voted yes, just want it legalized and sold like alcohol. |
Like kids? The kids who robbed and slit their dealer’s throat in Bethesda were 16, 17, and 18. |
If weed were legal there wouldn't be dealers who are targets for robbery because they're out on the street with lots of cash. |
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH omg I needed that |
Same, for many reasons. Not to be discounted - so that people could easily get pens and vapes, thereby reducing the ‘impossible to live with’ smell that appears to plague so many people on this thread so consistently (lols). |
How do you know you’ve been personally impacted by a driver who had been smoking weed? Did you get into an accident and the cops tested him/ her? (No such test really exists so probably not.) Did you see the empty bag of edibles in their car and assume they had consumed some earlier? Did you smell it out your window? If someone is driving erratically, there’s a significantly higher chance that it’s a primarily alcohol impaired driver. Also, where are all of you hanging out to be bombarded by the smell all the time? I might walk through pockets of weed smell once every couple of days for 5 seconds or less when I’m downtown. And I have terrible asthma and still manage to survive those few seconds- impressive, I know! I encounter irresponsible dog owners not picking up dog poop far more frequently, which is much much smellier and more annoying. “Smell” is not a real argument here. |
DP. Is murder over weed funny to you? This is just a small sample. If you suspect that marijuana use is causing you to have this type of emotional response, I would suggest that you stop using immediately because your response is disturbing. https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2022/08/100-year-sentence-upheld-in-killing-of-2-montgomery-co-teenagers/ https://bethesdamagazine.com/2022/04/06/boyds-man-convicted-of-silver-spring-murder-tied-to-marijuana-deal/ https://bethesdamagazine.com/2022/02/23/two-men-accused-of-murdering-man-in-rockville-in-marijuana-robbery/ https://wjla.com/news/local/bethesda-murder-homicide-teen-blaise-ucehmadu-target-trader-joes-stabbing-marijuana-weed-stairwell-joshua-wright-antonio-lawrence https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2022/05/silver-spring-man-sentenced-to-19-years-for-role-in-execution-style-marijuana-murder/ |
Legalizing it never gets rid of the illicit market or the violence associated with it. In some cases, like California, it gets even worse. |
I am going to make a dumb analogy here, but one of the illicit businesses featured in Goodfellas that the mob profited in was bootleg cigarettes which was a perfectly legal product where lots of money could be made in the tax arbitrage. The current situation with marijuana everywhere that it has been legalized is no different and it California in particular - but also Colorado - the numbers that are being reported in police busts are staggering and just like in Goodfellas the crime is being driven by large-scale criminal organizations. https://www.denverpost.com/2021/06/20/black-market-marijuana-colorado-chinese-crime-rings/ |
| almost no one goes to jail solely because of pot possession unless they have so much that they're a drug dealer. i dont know why this myth refuses to die. |
|
More than just the smell:
"There was a positive association between the number of cannabis dispensaries and rates of psychosis ED visits across all counties in Colorado. Although it is unclear whether it is access to products, or the types of products that may be driving this association, our findings suggest there is a potential impact on the mental health of the local population that is observed after cannabis legalization." https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0955395922001049 and lots more like this... |
"almost no one" isn't very comforting to the people who do go to jail. |
| NP here. 2 left of center Democrats household in MoCo; both of us voted against. |
Don’t break the law and you won’t. Did you grow up in a world devoid of consequences? |
For 60+ years MJ has followed circular logic: It's bad because it's illegal, and it's illegal because it's bad. Today's variant: it doesn't need to be legal because almost no one goes to jail for possession, but if they do go to jail they should have followed the law. Or maybe it should just be legal and the police, courts and jails can devote their resources to real societal problems. |
