I am not sure why so many posters think that there is a political motivation behind the shooting. The Vimeo video made it pretty clear that he had an uncontrollable urge to commit such a shooting. I'm not sure that he was concerned who the victims were.

Highland Park is a very wealthy community. And by all appearances the family ran several successful small businesses. Sometimes despite the best efforts of parents and siblings a young adult experiences a mental break. High school dropout. Facial tattoos. Sucked into the rightwing cult of Trumpism. It’s a tragedy with a horrid ending.
