We have 5 sets (2 from inlaws, one from my parents and 2 we got as wedding presents). All the ones from relatives are in boxes in the basement because we can't part with them yet. One of these days... Our sets are in the formal dining room, and get used a couple of times per year (Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter). |
So far I haven't inherited any family china, my mom and grandma are still living. Plus, I'll have to split with my siblings, so I don't know if they will come to me-
Maternal Grandma - Butterfly Gold Paternal Grandma - Cornflower (one of my aunts must have inherited this) Mother - Shadow Iris I have Winter Frost White, which I admit is the least exciting. We use it daily. |
I have a full set of Royal Albert Old Country Roses that I got as a gift from my aunt. When I was a little girl, I once told her how beautiful I thought her plates were and that I was going to have the same ones when I grew up. So when I got my first house, she presented me with a full set of that china.
Probably not what I would have chosen as an adult, but I love that she remembered and gave them to me. I host Thanksgiving and Christmas now, and they make a beautiful holiday table. |
I have something super fancy from my grandmother. It's in a box somewhere ... I think maybe my garage? I have no use for it. |
My mom’s collection of Johnson Brothers Indies Blue, mixed in with my small collection of Ralph Lauren Mandarin Blue, blue Wedgwood plates from my and DH’s colleges (1 each) and a few pieces of blue Calamityware.
I use it for every day use. It’s pretty and makes me smile. |
I have my grandmother's china. Don't know the brand but it is a simple pattern, white with a silver rim and small silver floral pattern around the rim.
We use it for major holidays and the occasional dinner party. |
My mom has this. I think it’s one of the ugliest china patterns of all time. |
My 30 year old DD does, as do some of her recently married friends. I think it depends on what you grew up with. |
DP. I think it's pretty, and I'm glad PP loves it. As for me, I use plain white porcelain without a design. The only exception for me is a Shelley Dainty Blue fine bone china tea set that I use almost daily, but that's for me -- it's what I wanted, and it's perfect for my personal teatime. https://attic.city/item/odRe/shelley-dainty-blue-tea-set-for-4-vintage-bone-china-made-in-england-1940s-by-curiopolis/curiopolis |
I have a gorgeous Lenox set that I have from getting married 30 years ago - ivory colored with gold trim, but I never use it. |
Same. I really should start. I was worried about my DD with severe autism breaking it but now, who cares? I think I'll make it a new tradition. |
I have Lenox Solitaire, and an extensive set of Fostoria American from my grandmother who collected it (not China, but fine diningware). I use them several times per month for hosting dinner parties. I have plain white Corelle for everyday, but China is meant to be used and enjoyed. |
I have Lenox Tuxedo Platinum: https://www.silversuperstore.com/Lenox-Tuxedo-Platinum-Fine-China/products/3971/
We used to use it when we lived overseas (we entertained a lot), but we haven’t used it since we got back to the States 8 years ago. Lol |
Nice! |
