Should we prepare for virtual schooling starting in January?

DD did fine with DL, but DS… he’s learned so much more this year already than last year. His anxiety is much better. I know I’m going to get bashed and told I’m an awful, uninvolved parent that DS didn’t excel at virtual learning. I am involved, but it just didn’t work for him.

Its not going to happen so nothing to worry about.

After the first kid dies, and it's on the news - they'll change their tune.

Been waiting for that since March 2020 and yet kids are not severely affected by it

Many kids have long term issues and many deaths. Your kids could survive virtual except you are the problem.

There have not been MANY deaths around her. Put up or shut up.

Exactly. To be even more clear, there have been ZERO deaths of kids age 0-18 in Montgomery County due to Covid since the beginning of this pandemic.

We have been lucky. There have been deaths in the us and around the world. You keep minimizing Covid and justifying your poor behavior. We have you to thank.

There have been few deaths here in the US. And it is ridiculous to compare the death rate in Montgomery County to the death rate in Kolkata.

Do you really think they’ll reopen then? Are you really that naive?

Exactly.

We were told 2 weeks in April 2021. That ended up being over a year!

It will be the same nonsense again when MCPS closes after break. Despite the fact that Omicron has not proven to be any more deadly than any other variant.

Exactly why we can't let MCPS close at all.

When they have no subs, sick staff, exhausted staff, and triple amount of sick kids (flu and Covid)—doesn’t look pretty.

It's not luck. We masked and shut things down and then got vaccinated miss sourpants. Our behavior was literally exemplary. Your passive aggressive whining, not so much.

DP. This surge of cases is going to go really high really quick, and overload our hospitals while it's at it. And then it will come back down really quick-- it's already turned the corner in South Africa and it's only been like 3 weeks. So going virtual for a couple weeks seems like a perfect policy to keep people safe and keep our hospitals functional, and then by late January things will be way better and it won't be needed anymore.

It’s not paranoia when it’s true.

The covid is no big deal, live life as normal, schools need to stay open parents will be stepping up and being subs and replacing sick staff They are happy to clean the toilets and collect the trash. They are happy to teach classes they know nothing about. They have no issue cleaning up throw up after a kid hurls in the classroom as a parent though them being sick was too much of an inconvenience to keep them home.

It doesn’t make sense because you aren’t paying attention.

Vaccines keep you alive but people are still getting sick and having long term issues. Many kids have unvaccinated younger siblings or elderly grandparents at home. Nobody wants Covid - vaccinated or not

You have to know this stuff.

3/4 of currently hospitalized 1204 patients are unvaccinated. The other 1/4 did not get boosters or had preexisting conditions. Same time last year we had over 2000 hospitalized patients. You can check that in NYT tables. Let families decide their own risk/benefit. The majority of people are protected and are willing to take the risk. If you want virtual, ask to be moved to virtual academy. If you are already in virtual academy, there is no reason for you to post.

We have 3 vaccines, 2 oral covid treatments, monoclonal antibodies. The overall rate of death before vaccines was 2%, and now with vaccines and treatments it’s expected to decrease. Things are looking up and those unvaccinated hospitalized are very unlikely to die.

Now tell us how many of those work on Omicron?

The great covid denier. Kids in MCPS don't have 3 vaccines. Some only have one, a few who are in prek have none. And, not everyone has access to covid treatments. Must be nice to have good health care. This variant is much more contagious. It is less symptomatic but its not looking up. Not for a long time.

Pfizer and Moderna released data that 3 doses are equally effective at producing neutralizing antibodies against Onicron as other variants .So 2 of the 3 vaccines are effective? Is that what you are asking? South Africa discovered Onicron on November 25 and today they released information that the majority of their deaths and hospitalizations have been in unvaccinated, and that they are over the wave after 3 week. But you keep on imagining doom and gloom. Good luck to you !

Or, those 1/4 were healthy and unlucky. Just because you get a booster, it does not mean you are immune from covid.
