5-11 Vaccine appointments thread

or kids have survived this long what's another month?

I think many parents would like to be able to breathe easier for two reasons.
1. To be fully vaccinated (i.e. 2wks past the second shot) in time for holiday travel.
2. For many kids, being vaccinated can make the difference between being quarantined for an exposure or not. My 6th grader does not want to miss a week of school if a classmate tests positive.

Just scheduled via CVS for my 5yo... first dose next week, 2nd dose end of Nov. I am so excited. 1/3 of his life has been ruled by COVID. He’ll be fully vaccinated for Christmas!

This is true, and I also learned with scheduling the adult vaccines that the PP who said they do periodic "dumps" of new appointments is correct. At least, it's true of Walgreens. So keep checking.

Has anyone with Kaiser heard what they have planned for distributing pediatric vaccines? We have Kaiser and I've just been assuming I can go through them, but so far, no info available, even when I've called. Just a response that more info is to come. I'm happy to wait some, if they are prioritizing medically vulnerable kids, but I'd like to get my kids vaccinated before Christmas and will enter the appointment hunger games if I have to to make that happen.

You don't understand how viruses spread do you? I know 2 kids who contracted covid last week. So yes, they survived, but I'd like to avoid my kids contracting this virus before they are vaccinated against it.

Also, we have an anti-mask governor who just got elected. So yes, I want my kids vaccinated ASAP.

Has anyone in DC heard anything about Walmart pharmacy? The DC Health website says Walmart will carry it, but I'm not seeing any availability anywhere. That's where I got mine, so would prefer the same location for record keeping purposes.

All: the cvs site availability literally changes by the minute. Unfortunately, refreshing and trying 4-5 different zip codes near you is the only way to get it done.

I got CVS in NW DC for Monday and then Alexandria for a week later. I just kept putting in my zip and refreshing over and over. Eventually found them. May drag second DC to first DC appointment with the hope that they can both get it at the same time. First DC will be fully vaxxed by thanksgiving (not with the additional two weeks) but second DC will not. Too bad you can’t schedule more than one child at the same time. I may keep checking to see if I can find another one closer/sooner and also see what our health department does this weekend.

How does this schedule get you two shots in before Thanksgiving? Three weeks from this Monday is after Thanksgiving.

I feel pretty confidant that there will be an influx of vaccine appointments and options over the next 2 weeks. Which would ensure they will be vaccinated before Christmas. I made appointments on 11/11 for my kids, but I have already heard there may be mass vax sites set up the weekend of 11/13 and 11/14.

It shows me availability at various CVS locations but then says no times are available, grr

Arlington website directed me to VAMS website. VAMS is showing a 5-11 clinic on Friday and Saturday at Dulles Town Center with hundreds (thousands?) of appointments. Easy to book 2 kids for same time

My 5 year old also doesn't remember a time before Covid. Booked him and his 8 year old sister for their first shots next week. I am VERY excited!
