It's the benefit of being independently wealthy. He has enough money to never have to worry and, unlike everyone else.that's involved, his money is not in any way dependent on Trump, politics, or his current job.

What makes you say that? The gist of his entire testimony up to this point is that Trump directed them all to do this. He's also said he doesn't dispute what others who testified said.

This doesn’t save Trump. If Sondland said it was all his own idea, it would. But he has said over and over that this was all at the direction of Trump.
