West Springfield Voting Precincts 2024
Precinct Harris Trump Valley 1565 734 Hunt Valley 1193 664 West Springfield 1713 737 Sydenstricker 1686 823 Cardinal 1219 601 Irving 1513 694 Burke #1 1346 659 Orange 2161 1061 Total 12396 5973 2-1 ratio of Harris to Trump Votes. None of the precincts was close. Similar results in the other races across those precincts. West Springfield voters continue to back the Blue. Why shouldn't the School Board member continue down the redistricting path? The previous all Blue School Board advertised this plan. Great Falls Precincts Precinct Harris Trump Seneca 1595 1169 Forestville 1468 1136 Great Falls 1024 691 Hickory 1660 1062 Totals 5747 4058 1.4 ratio of Harris to Trump. While redder, even the Great Falls area districts that may be at risk of redistricting supported the Blue. While obviously not the School Board races, the consistent vote for Blue sends a message to the School Board that the county will continue to support them. Even if they lose some precincts to conservative backed School Board members next time around because they redistricted, they will 90% chance will still control the School Board (and all the other local offices). |
| There is no "we" PP. I don't want the school board to be political, I just want what is best for our kids. Banning books and having armed police officers in every school is not what's best for our children. |
You. |
Because federal elections aren’t local school board elections. The electorate here is smart enough to understand the difference. Want a tip to help the Republicans? Run a candidate who is back to basics, Incorporate some school options that are located under the county school umbrella (immersion, montessori, BASIC, traditional, STEM focused etc) don’t talk about book banning, celebrating Christmas as being important, or transgender issues. Have that candidate talk about stability in pyramids and the importance of having kids stay in their school pyramid for their school experience. Then, you will win. |
And maybe don't raffle off AR-15s as part of your campaign pitch... |

The SB isn’t up for re-election until 2027. By then the SB may have implemented unpopular boundary changes, which could be a game changer to diminish Democratic support. On the other hand, antipathy towards Trump in 2019 helped the Democrats sweep the School Board that fall.
About the only thing that’s clear is that running on far-right cultural issues in Fairfax is a losing strategy. I tried to get the GOP-endorsed candidate in our district to focus more on facilities-related issues and less on hot-button cultural issues, and he did towards the end of his campaign but by then it was too little, too late, especially given the advantages that Democrats have in Fairfax. |
Just pointing out that the School Board is not afraid of being tossed out if they redistrict. Blue backed members will still control the School Board. No Republican backed candidates will be satisfactory to voters in this county. Blue No Matter Who! So be prepared for redistricting. |
I don’t necessarily agree that none of the SB members care about their political futures or that no GOP-endorsed candidate can win. People live McElveen and McDaniel seem like they have larger aspirations. Maybe Anderson and Dunne as well. Dissatisfaction over the closing of Clifton ES got Elizabeth Schultz (R) elected back in 2011, and people may feel as passionate about getting redistricted as they feel about a school closing. |
Of course they are going to redistrict. They will move kids around, lose a bunch of kids to deportation and or fed government jobs moving away and then wonder why they don’t have more kids. APS went through this 4 years ago or so and now they have far fewer students than the “projections” foretold and could have left everything alone. They almost shut down a school because there weren’t enrollment numbers. |
Can't leave Lewis and WSHS like it is. |
|
Just curious, does anyone on this forum think it is a problem for West Springfield to have 1100-1200 more students than Lewis? With Lewis being a large outlier from the rest of the FCPS high schools in terms of enrollment. These schools are next door, and West Springfield is over design capacity (a fact from the CIP).
Does that concern anyone? Or is it just tough s^% for Lewis and that community? At the high school level there isn't a single bigger argument for redistricting than the West Springfield / Lewis difference - so if that doesn't happen then there really shouldn't be any change at the high school level. You can send some Edison kids to Lewis at the same time since it is also over design capacity. |
Moving 6th grade away from ES won’t work because of the facility setup and inertia, but it happens all over the county. My ES in the Midwest was K-4. |
About 50 pages of this thread is about that topic. |
Sure they could. Get rid of transfers and establish an AP program as they just began. |
