Adults at movie theatres....WHY?

Anonymous
So thinking of the events for the weekend, my DH suggested going to a movie one night for an adult movie no kids. However, I refuse to go to movie theatres anymore. My latest experience in an adult movie was:

1) People texting on their phones the entire time
2) People answering phones in the middle of the movie....yes
3) Parents brining an infant in the stroller and pushing the stroller through the aisle and leaving it in there
3)a when baby woke up screaming they tried to comfort it rather than leaving, and then when hecklers started to get annoyed they told the other people to "F-off"
4) Did I mention another baby brought in?

These are just a few of the things that occurred and ruined the movie for both of us. So I choose not to go anymore because a relaxing night out turned into the above.

I was just wondering, was this just a really bad movie theatre night or do other people experience this? I am not talking a kids movie, because I do not expect that to be calm and quiet per se, but an adult movie?

Oh for crying out loud. (ha!) Just go to the ones in Bethesda. We all know what you mean. Gallery Place isn't right for you.

Not sure what Gallery Place has to do with it? Actually it was White Flint Mall in Rockville.

I refuse to go to evening movies at Tysons Corner anymore. Usually the a.m. ones on the weekend are ok. The biggest problem are all the spoiled teenagers who text, talk, and get up and walk around through the whole thing. (Haven't seen too many babies brought in). And god forbid you politely ask them to stop doing whatever annoying thing you are doing, then you are a "f-ing b*tch" or whatever else they want to call you. I'm sure most of these kids come from good homes and I would like to think if their parents knew about this behavior they'd flip out, but I'm probably being way too optimistic.

I absolutely agree, OP. Not so much about the baby thing, but the sight of all the little screens lighting up as people check their messages and take their calls is just so damn distracting.

That's a bad one, too - full of teens. If you want a pleasant experience, I would suggest the following movie theaters - in order of maturity:

1. Landmark Bethesda
2. AFI Silver
3. Mazza Gallerie
4. Regal Bethesda
5. Rio -
6. Rockville

I was going to say, I usually go to Rio or Rockville and have never had any of the issues OP describes. I think the mall-based theaters are the culprits.

Yeah we've had mixed experiences depending on the theater. We don't go to Eisenhour anymore - 7-8 years ago it was fine, but it is pretty skanky now and kids run wild. Last time we were there a few years ago, there was no toilet paper in any of the 3-4 restrooms!

Potomac Yard was out of control.

We have had great luck with Fairfax Corner and Kingstowne.

OP here. I have not been to Regal in Bethesda in a while. Just because, but is it better? I would think that being where its located there are always crowds and not sure if they are better (i.e. more respectful)? I think they have an adult only theatre in Mazza but not sure. But it just gets me that the adults are the ones talking and texting on phones? I can see a teen doing that as annoying as it is, but why an adult?

We like to go to the movies on Sunday evening. There are a LOT less people there and most kids/teenagers are at home because it is a school night.

It'

Culture of acceptance for bb texting. Also an ego-driven mentality that makes the person believe that he really, really needs to respond to texts or the world will go to he**. Regal, surprisingly given that there are a ton of older teens and college kids, is better than WF, SS or GP (definitely not perfect, but better).

I saw this episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. My advice is go to movie theaters way out in the suburbs. No issues.

It might just be better to let one of the staff know so they can talk to the offenders rather than confronting them yourself.

Agree with 8:55. Stick with Landmark Bethesda and Mazza. I'm suprised you had those issues at White Flint though.

I have never seen that at Mazza or Regal Bethesda. But be aware that Regal Bethesda is loaded with teens on the weekends. They are fine as long as you're not seeing a Twilight movie or anything else where they would be the bulk of the audience. Also, the later movies at Regal are much less crowded. But the theater is kind of dingy and needs some updating. Mazza is your best bet.
