Neither do you.

Either way, the team is in the middle of a downward spiral. They lost 0-3 to "powerhouse" CYA yesterday.

Wow. Sounds like CYA is definitely trending upwards these days.

Nope, VYS 06 is trending down...

That's the same result they had in May 2019.

Though, they beat CYA 5-4 in August 2019, then lost to them 3-2 in Sept 2019. They were competitive games from the score sheet.
In Nov 2019, they beat Tidewater 7-0 but this year they tied 1-1.

Yeah, that's strange.

But it's incumbent on the "downward spiral" person to provide more evidence beyond a few scores. What factors led to this alleged spiral? How many were exacerbated by COVID?

They sent kids to Bethesda South and then McLean a couple of years ago. Was there a big exodus this year? If so, why?

And why does the "downward spiral" person care so much?

My theory about such people is that they left and are then trying to justify their decision. (If that's the case here, I might actually know who it is! Or I could find out rather quickly.)

Lost 1 player that went to play up. They added 3 players and there is no COVID impact.

They sent kids to Bethesda South? You mean "A few kids fled to Bethesda South". I know it's not much but your words put such a nice spin on it like VYS was cooperating with other clubs. These kids and parents couldn't wait to leave Vienna and play with better kids and better coaching.

Ah yes! The mass exodus to Bethesda South...we all remember that. It left VYS in shambles. LOL
What happened to Bethesda South anyway?

OK, let's nip this in the bud.

Maybe "sent" is the wrong word, but so is "fled." Bethesda South had a fantastic team. Others would know more than me, but I think it was more or less a one-man show, and when he moved on, there was no more program. It wasn't a player exodus.

The point here is that I know some players left the 06 team a couple of years ago. I don't know of any reason why the team would be worse *this* year than it was *last* year, but while I would probably recognize a few names if I had a roster, I don't know why it would've declined.

And I'm sure "downward spiral" is an exaggeration, and I wonder why someone would so motivated to say otherwise.

I said nothing about a downward spiral. Someone else did. I just knew the two kids that left when 06 Bethesda South team was created. I agree that their wasn't a mass exodus. I never said that either. I think there were TWO kids, but yet you said "VYS sent kids there" to make it seem like there was a big affect on the VYS team. And yes, the coach did leave after a few years but he never promised anything more and he actually stayed a year or two longer than what he originally thought would happen. This is a fantastic example of what is NOT needed. You don't need these big clubs and big leagues in the younger ages. You need a good coach that busts his ass for the kids, you need to be on a team with competitive kids that train hard, and be on a team that plays lots of competitive games. That's what BSC-South was. THEN...a few kids left Bethesda South after the first year and three more Vienna kids joined.

Are you talking about Vienna black vs. McLean white NCSL teams? McLean won 6-3

I was speaking in reference to the thread in general. Besides, it's an anonymous message board, so no one knows who's saying what unless I do because I actually put a name on mine that's very easy to trace.

I think there were TWO kids, but yet you said "VYS sent kids there" to make it seem like there was a big affect on the VYS team.

I know them both. Great kids, great families. I coached one.

And yes, the coach did leave after a few years but he never promised anything more and he actually stayed a year or two longer than what he originally thought would happen.

I know. Great coach.

Then where do kids start playing? Bethesda South didn't offer programs for the younger ages.

You need a good coach that busts his ass for the kids, you need to be on a team with competitive kids that train hard, and be on a team that plays lots of competitive games. That's what BSC-South was. THEN...a few kids left Bethesda South after the first year and three more Vienna kids joined.

So that's five total. That would have some impact on the VYS team, wouldn't it?

And it doesn't strike me as a bad thing in which people "fled." They learned how to play at their local club. They moved on to a team that was basically a regional All-Star team.

It's actually a rare thing in youth soccer. The system worked!

And I'm still waiting for the "downward spiral" person to explain why that's allegedly the case.

Yes, I only said that I'm not the downward spiral person just so you know I'm someone else. Yes, losing 5 should most certainly affect a team. I meant to say that you said VYS sent them there to make it seem like their was a partnership with Vienna and that was certainly not the case.

But Vienna did not send it's best players to another club/team, they left.

Losing four or five from the top of the roster would essentially a first team at Vienna comparable to a second team at big clubs. The same might even be true for similar losses at top teams at big clubs. It depends on where the play and the gap between top and bottom of the roster.

Please contact me. I don't want to say anything without clearing it.

Ranting Soccer Dad. Do you have any kids left in VYS?

True. But I think "fled" was an overstatement.

(Have I not yet made it clear that I know some of the people involved here? I actually coached a rec team that scrimmaged with Bethesda South. Nice of the coach to do that. Reunited some kids who played together at U-8.)

That coach agreed to scrimmage a Vienna rec team? When was this?

Mclean won 6-3

Why the interest in this one game? Seems out of place with the rest of the comments in this thread.
