Taylor is exceptional. I’m not even that big of a fan and I’m highly annoyed at what I learned about her with the whole Blake lively fiasco where I think the two of them set up an innocent man for kicks, but come on. It’s hard to argue that she hasn’t been really successful. I’m sure her parents deserve some credit, but as others have said her overall stage presence, ability to connect with fans, songwriting ability and being so prolific etc., are why we’re here today arguing about her.

She could have crashed and burned like Britney or Bieber but she didn’t. That she could pull off her tour for so long without so much of the drama says a lot about her whether you want to admit it or not.

Taylor’s parents were rich before and well educated. Britney’s were not well educated and did not have much money.

Much easier to have money and make more of it.

Wasn’t Bieber groomed and possibly assaulted by adults? If so, I am not going to tear down a person treated like that.

But Taylor isn't well educated, is she? It's amazing she did so well.

Guys, my family was pretty wealthy growing up. My dad could’ve easily afforded to put $1 million toward a music career. Guess what. Even if he did, I seriously doubt I’d be worth 2 billion by age 36 and I seriously doubt I would’ve had the biggest tour we will ever see for generations.

There are millions and millions and millions of kids who don’t amount to any successful career in the industry yet have supportive parents who are trying to make their dreams come true and investing time and money in them. But it’s a one in 10 million chance that you end up with a long-term, lucrative and successful career, and for Taylor’s level of success it’s more like one in a billion.

By Taylor’s own admission, mom is her therapist and matchmaker and according to many, Dad is still stepping in to solve her business and legal problems.

I don’t think her fans are remotely able to be objective about her. You “guys” are too stuck in Taylor worship to think that she isn’t solely responsible for her success. You are willing to insult people who point out inconsistencies in your theories and willing to defend capitalism to keep you from questioning your beliefs about her.

These people sound young or maybe they are bots. Either way, they sound quite taken w Taylor and very defensive and can’t look at the situation with objectivity.

It’s interesting to see how quickly some of them resort to insults and it’s like how the president acts when someone does not agree with him. He resorts to insults, which is a weak attempt at argument.

This is exactly what Trumpers do? Projection. It’s the haters that have been insulting calling her fiancé trash or how she doesn’t write her own music or is a puppet to the industry. Her fans defend her, yes but the insults and trashy posts come from you and hopefully you don’t have children because we know where they get the bullying behavior from

She does not write songs entirely herself so it is true she does not write her own music.

Yes, you have proven my point by delivering more insults. They do nothing to me except show you are a bully who disagrees by insulting people.

Taylor brings out the worst in you.

How dare you insult me! I will insult you right back!

Yep, I’m sure tons of parents that we don’t hear about our pouring money into their kids to become famous, weather it’s America idol or whatever to make their dreams come true but they aren’t Taylor so the hater jealousy people that think she doesn’t write her own songs had to find something else wrong with her

Most normal parents, even though they are supporting their kid on American Idol, aren’t arranging secret parties for their teenager to generate interest, or creating a web page about their 12 year old daughter to support her music career. They exploited her, even if at 12 she said she wanted to do it. I can’t imagine doing that to a tween. Even beyond that, most parents aren’t buying up their child’s albums or have the savvy to negotiate business contracts for their child or claiming that they are their child’s therapist.
Oh, my. You missed the point completely. She has talent and stage presence and the ‘it’ factor and if it was so easy to manipulate the system by throwing parties to generate interest and have their kid become famous and rich lots would do it but they aren’t Taylor.
Acting like Taylor has nothing to do with her success is not just naive, it’s a very dumb take

Do you really think it is okay to create a website about your 12 year old? Do you really want to engineer your kids life to the point you are inviting screened fans over to have parties with her? She herself has said she was lonely and would follow fans to see what normal kids lives are like. I can’t imagine doing that to a child. Yes, some people do it for sports, but that doesn’t have the same trade offs of fame and money for privacy that Hollywood/the music industry does.

And if you are okay with all that and think it is normal, are you currently doing it for your kids?

But, there is a difference between “insulting” Taylor (a billionaire who has all the power) and insulting a regular person who is saying they don’t like her. The Swifties are behaving as if people who don’t like Taylor are insulting them personally by disagreeing with Taylor’s music or origin story. We (or at least I) am not. There is also a difference between an insult (like weird/weirdo, bizzare, acting like _____) and bringing up things that don’t agree with the Swifty narrative.

I AM disagreeing with Taylor’s version and the way she and her family does business. That isn’t and shouldn’t be a personal insult to you. It isn’t even an insult to Taylor to question her origin story. Yet, you take it like it is.

Most of us don't have kids with the talent and skills to go far. Having pushy parents is what it takes to make it to the top. Ask the Williams sisters, Tiger Woods, Bieber, all gymnasts, the Hughes brothers, etc etc. Do you hate that this is what it takes or just the people who do it?

You continue to miss the point. It’s not that her father didn’t play a role but to continue to act like her success is a manufactured machine is being naive at best. Most of her success is because of her and she was just inducted into songwriters hall of fame. Let me guess, her dad writes the songs for her? Come on, now

Sorry but you don't get to decide that someone who likes her music and chooses to buy it is brainwashed. They just like things that you don't and that's really ok. You're not going to change anyone's mind. Does live and let live mean anything to you?

It’s not an insult to me at all and I don’t take it personally but to say someone is this completely manufactured machine isn’t factual and I’m pointing that part out to you.

NP. “Taylor bashers”? The strangest thing about her is this bizarre fan passion. It’s all so weird, her neediness, her attention whoring ala court side, the is she or is she not friends with XYZ person, the strident screamy nature of her obvious immaturity in romantic relationships, the parasocial response to the engagement and her preening brag about being “your English teacher” getting engaged.

Beatlemania and women throwing themselves at Elvis seems more normal. The fan wars between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion lovers seems more normal. Playing online Secret Service officer to a middle-aged, incredibly rich woman who writes background music is so deeply, deeply odd.

I don't really see anyone defending her dad...only what Taylor managed to accomplish.
Thank you. The reading comprehension from Taylor bashers is really lacking.

The irony of questioning Taylor bashing while bashing her seems to escape you.
Lots of celebrities were courtside but you basically saying Taylor is the one whoring herself courtside is just calling your obsessive Taylor ax to grind out, that is way more insane than her defenders.

I’d like to see how much hockey parents invest in their hockey players. This return on investment is not remotely typical.
Not the point people were making but ok

The point is parents investing in their kids careers. It takes money to make money these days. I thought everyone knew this?
Yes, but the point is people can invest in their kids and they do but they’re is only one Taylor so these fools that actually think she’s basically manufactured because of her dad’s involvement have lost their minds.
People invest in their kids constantly but they haven’t done what Taylor has

Eh. Beyonce, Gracie Abram’s, and Lana del Ray are other examples. Definitely rare but nothing unique to Taylor.

I don't want to insult anyone just because they don't like Taylor. I actually life the r/SwiftlyNeutral board because it's reasonable. But sorry, the CTE troll and the "masters was fake" trolls are whack and I have no problem calling that out.
