Maybe FCPS had right of first refusal in their sale contract to the Saudis. |
So anyone want to take a guess at the boundaries for a new 2000 student HS? |
the SB will be very sensitive to appearances with this school being so much fancier than a regular FCPS HS.
they will definitely want at least 25-30 percent FARMs kids, otherwise, real bad look. |
Agree. Carson is only around 15%, so they are going to need to pull in some low income areas to get the demographic balance that won't "look bad" to them. |
Carson is half AAP. That gives a little imbalance, It will be similar to others in area. |
Coates is over 50% FARMS--some will go to Herndon, but it is still high FARMS
McNair is right at 30% Floris is almost 14% Oak Hill is close to 10% (it is also an AAP center, so it could be as much as 10%) Crossfield is around 7% Fox Mill is 9% My guess is that it will be around 25%--depending on membership numbers of those schools. I think it will include top four schools listed. Definitely the first three. |
Chantilly is the most crowded school around here, I'd think at least some of the Chantilly-bound Oak Hill would be placed in the new HS. |
Coates and McNair move to the new building, then they use Floris, Fox Mill to balance the FARMs out. Those are the 4 schools that have Carson as their base school.
Oak Hill is there for AAP and Chantilly’s numbers are dropping. Crossfield has the long bus ride to Oakton, maybe they fill in the rest. It is also a small school. |
I thought that was Centerville? |
Centreville, SLHS and Westfield are all around 30% Farms. Chantilly is lower, Herndon is higher. My guess is they will aim for at least 25% and that will be the first priority when zoning. If the school wasn't SO nice, they might not care as much. |
And the other issue is they will not want to increase the farms rate at any of the existing HS by pulling too many well off students out to go to New HS.

Nope. Floris goes first because KAA is located in the Floris distict. Then it's Coates and McNair because once you move Floris Coates and McNair are a Westfield attendance island without a move. Then you move Oak Hill to relieve Chantilly overcrowding. If KAA is small enough, that's it. If it has additional capacity, they decide what's more important - the desire to alleviate long commutes to Oakton (favors Crossfield) or the practicality of sending kids who live closer to KAA (favors Fox Mill). What they shouldn't be doing is planning any "expansion" of KAA beyond the interior modifications needed for it to be a high school. They're going to be creating a fair amount of extra capacity at Westfield and leaving a lot of extra capacity at Herndon. |
Prediction: Coates McNair Floris Oak Hill (Crossfield) This solves bus ride to Westfield on 28 and the overcrowding at Chantilly. Enables Centreville to off load to Westfield. They will try to include Crossfield because of the long bus ride to Oakton. Might allow close Navy kids to return to Chantilly. |
I don't think they are as worried about manipulating FARMS rates as some of you seem to be suggesting. If Coates and McNair are at the new school it will take care of itself. |
