Got it, thanks, just wanted to make sure people know the urgency here.

And I should have said that they haven’t announced specific plans, like what schools will be affected. Just that they are going to do this county-wide.

Also, they put off doing some boundary changes or did them and then said no more until a holistic change is done. Reid also seemed to sign off on the holistic change thing there was a quote from her stating the same. I think it will happen soon. My guess is that this coming week they are going over the maps one last time and then they will release in July when everyone is on vacation.

Doubt it. The boundary changes will be limited to specific areas and only impact a small segment of the student population. Those parents will undoubtedly be pissed so lots of barking but no real bite.

I think the forthcoming disaster may be enough to cleave off a lot of these SB seats, though that is three years away.

Interestingly, a pissed off moderate vote in Fairfax could hand Virginia to Trump. Imagine the equity warrior school board handing Trump another four years!

Right but none of the school boards kids will be affected. Here is the issue the school board thinks about the kids like chess pieces and overall they are correct that the kids who are going to be moved “will be fine.” We parents have to think about our kids emotional and social well being and no our kids will not necessarily be just fine with getting switched just before their junior year. The grandfathering should include more classes than just seniors if FCPS really cares about individual kids mental health and development the way they claim to.

So nice that someone from Gatehouse is here to spin what’s happening and pacify parents.

They plan to redistrict every five years. As much as you pretend that it’ll just be a handful of residents impacted, it’s the thousands of residents that will be impacted and the ongoing and unnecessary risk of redistricting that will put the democrats at risk.

Minimize the risk at your agenda’s peril.

It’s the audacity for me…

No. The school board should figure out how to fix the problems at Lewis, Herndon, etc. without negatively impacting kids who are doing fine where they are. This plan of shuffling kids around so all schools are about even in terms of underperforming students doesn't benefit anyone.

Schools cannot fix the types of problems found at these schools. Only the federal government can fix the border. As a parent with kids in feeder schools to one of these, just know that it isn't going to get better the next couple of years. These kids have been coming all year and at this point, there are so many they simply speak their native language in class to each other only and are not attempting even attempting English.

Well , you can bring boarder politics into it, but the reality is immigrants are getting jobs here, so they come. Maybe if we had health care p
This is so true. I substitute often in these schools, and the feeder elementaries as well. Groups of non-English speaking kids simply speak their native language (usually Spanish) in class and make no attempt to listen or try to speak English. This is entirely a Biden-made disaster and won't get better by simply shuffling kids around.
DP

No. Biden didn’t change the border policy to make this happen. In fact there was a bill that would have helped and Trump was the one who nixed it.

That said this thread is more concerned about the borders in FCPS right now, so bring your concerns to the political discussion board.

Orange Man prevents weak president from getting a bill passed that somehow wasn’t needed by any other president to prevent a massive flood for decades upon decades.

Pathetic

Fixing Lewis is past due and if it means we have to sacrifice a few of your little white snowflakes to the cause, then so be it. They will be fine.

Could you please explain how sending some white kids to Lewis will "fix" the school's issues? We'll wait.

The school board feels that you can’t have a good school unless you have enough white children.

Fix MVHS in a way that doesn’t alienate that whole side of the county. Fix Lewis in a way that doesn’t enrage neighborhoods that are already part of the solution. Explain how equity matters while keeping apartment dwellers out of Langley. There is a lot of hypocrisy baked into boundaries; saying you’re looking at the whole county shines a spotlight on all of it

Review or redistrict? A review of boundaries to address capacity issues, etc. every few years seems appropriate and responsible.

My sense is that the policy changes are intended to allow the SB to address the issues - with WSHS/Lewis being first up to bat.

While this is all speculation at this point, would they keep the elementary kids at Hunt Valley and make it a split feeder, or would they move the elementary kids to Saratoga? Geographically, I think it makes more sense to move neighborhoods like ours to Newington Forest/South County, but I can see why they might end up moving us to Lewis.

They haven’t announced any plans other than starting the holistic boundary study soon. If you are asking the question, it means you are not safe.

You should reach out to the SB with your views. There is not much time to weigh in.

It will be Saratoga. I think they will also shift some Lake Braddock/Sangster kids to Newington.

They are righting a wrong when they shifted that Hunt Valley zone. Should have been Saratoga long ago.
