LAMB waitlist

Anonymous
After attending hours worth of open houses last year and being totally shut out in the PS lotteries, I didn't attend any open houses this year and fully expected another shut out. You can imagine my surprise when my LAMB postcard was delivered with a >5 spot on the PK waitlist.

Can anyone fill me in on the specifics - does this number apply to the language preference we selected? The age group? Or is there just one gigantic PK waitlist and everyone is on the same one regardless age or language dominance? And the waitlist is totally dependent on whether or not the new campus is approved by the Charter Board, right? Is there a timeline on that decision by chance? And, will these new larger PK classes be at the new campus or the old?

Thanks!

Good questions. I too am curious about the structure of the waitlist and if it has already been allocated to their needed age and language dominance makeup. As for the waitlist and the new school, everything I have read and heard is that the waitlist is now for the new school. But I haven't heard that officially from the school yet. Their postcard was a bit vague, I imagine on purpose! We have a good waitlist number too IF they get the new school.

From what I understand from other threads it's just one big waitlist so assuming they open the new campus, you're in! We're in the 40s so I'm equally anxious to know more details.

Does anyone know anything about when there will be a definitive answer about the new campus??

I spoke to someone at the school and she said they anticipated a decision from the Charter Board at the end of the month.

Fingers crossed!

Their odds are really good, they're already a proven and successful school. The charter board closes bad schools and likes to replicate good ones.

Has anyone heard any updates on the LAMB waitlist? We have a waitlist number in the low 50's for a 3yr old and are anxious to know our chances.

I spoke to someone from LAMB yesterday and was told that if they get the approval (it was hard to hear but it sounded like they would know by Apr 25), they would be able to take 60 children. So congrats to those with low waitlist numbers as I agree that it is likely that they will get the approval.

I just spoke with someone at the Charter Board and their next meeting is Monday at 6:00 at Carlos Rosario. LAMB expansion is on the agenda, so this reflects what you learned in your call. I asked if there was anything that interested parents could do and the person I spoke with indicated we could email the board or there is time for public comments at the end of the meeting.

That would make a very powerful impression, were you to do either of those. These are not meetings that are generally attended by anyone who doesn't HAVE to be there. Send the email, that way they'll get the message in advance of the meeting (because they're going to go into the meeting already leaning one way or the other). LAMB has a good reputation and a great following, it would be shocking if they were denied.

Is there any one in specific we should e-mail? I'd love to send something as I can't attend in person.

Does anyone know when the 1st day of school will be or LAMB in the fall? I know I am jumping the gun - but had not thought through that if my child got in, school might start sometime in August. Now we might need to develop a childcare plan.

If anyone has info - much appreciated.

Is anyone planning on attending the meeting on Monday night and willing to post the results here? I'd love to go but will be out of town.

I am the person that originally posted about the Board meeting. I am planning on attending the meeting and will post the results when I know them. The agenda lists a number of schools besides LAMB requesting increases in enrollments. This also appears to be the meeting where they make decisions about new charter applications.

Someone asked about emailing the Board. The general email address is: dcpublic@dcpubliccharter.com

Thank you! I will e-mail the Board - any suggestions on what to say/not say? Here's hoping we'll have children at school together in the Fall!
