They are trying to claim without evidence that Wootton is being targeted because of its Asian population that that is why Wootton and not ::unidentified other school:: is getting a brand new building. Make it make sense. |
If that's truly your belief and it's about the school and not the families or kids, then the issue is that your reaction is - oh no - we've got to keep our kids away from them rather than - holy cow - how is MCPS allowed to get away with providing such lopsided experiences where rich kids get great schools and (relatively) poorer kids get crappy ones. But, while you're fighting tooth and nail to keep your kids in the situation they're in, you're also fighting against those kids getting access to better opportunities. Especially since sending those kids to Frost and Wootton would IMMEDIATELY improve their experience and outcomes. |
THIS. I know what doctor I'll never send my kids to... |
+1. Thank you for your common sense take! There has been definitely weaponizing of anti-racism, and for some reason a lot of this hatred from pro H side is directed at Asian women in particular. Idk if this is intentional because, historically, Asian women are seen as “obedient”. Perhaps, pro H just think Asian women are the easiest targets. Stop attacking community members. |
The only reason we are talking about Asian women is because the post about the meeting last night- which kicked off this entire line of conversation- referenced Asian women. |
Definitely know what realtors to avoid now! |
Kind of a different topic but I'm including it my reply to keep this back and forth up to date. But I posted on here a while back the comparison of Wilde Lake MS, Urbana MS and Ridgeview MS using the mdreportcard numbers. If I recall correctly Wilde Lake MS had a higher Black/African American population and FARMS population but both of their respective populations outperformed Ridgeview. Urbana MS appeared to serve those respective populations, which were smaller, better as well. So again, the issue lies with the schools, not the populations. But what is MCPS doing to help these schools? Mixing it in with higher performing schools at the MS and HS levels aren't going to help. Because everything starts at the ES level. Students are placed on their math tracks by fourth or fifth grades. I also frequently post how the rigors at high schools are different and it's not fair to the hardworking students at some schools because they are given ceilings. Or no indications of how they're performing until it comes time for standardized tests or they go to college and realize how far they're behind. Mixing the schools WILL help these one or two students. But if MCPS is really looking to improve their schools, they would start at the elementary school level and work from the foundation going up. These regional programs giving students access at the HS level are already putting students on different footing. And the same applies to MS. All of this has been discussed in previous threads since the beginning of the boundary proposals. |
and btw as I've mentioned in previous threads, depending on the outcome, we will indeed move out of Montgomery County if we are not happy with the results. As Montgomery County does not give any reasons for us to stay. Where you can get more for the money in terms of schools and property elsewhere. Anyone who is convinced that Montgomery County is still a top county and school system is basing things off it's reputation from thirty years ago (and was based on cooked up stats of only focusing on it's top performers) |
That post referenced Asian women because that’s what happened. Why do pro H advocates feel the need to target Asian women with their public vitriol? I wasn’t at the Taylor forum, but saw the video. The dude at the end who made the classist remark was a white dude. I didn’t see any pro H folks go up to him to scream in his face. Last night, no one made any racist or classist remarks, yet pro H feel that it is ok for some white lady to scream in the faces of multiple Asian women who didn’t had zero desire to engage with her. |

“Keep my wife’s name out your f—ing mouth!”
As Will Smith said. Asian person here. Can you all just stop? Regardless of what side, pro or anti H. Move on with the Asian this or that… it’s not a monolith anyway, the Asian population. Getting tired of my people being spoken of. Yawn. |
I cant because pro H people told me if I see racism I need to call it out. Last night, I saw racism. A white lady accosting Asian women like her whole life depended on it. |
How about an approach instead that targets all, equal opportunity? NP. Plenty of others to get in the face of… white dudes too can be in scope. |
Agree with this approach. Start with that white lady who hates Asian women. |
Do you know her? Maybe keep her name outta yo mouth as well. Maybe get that retired debarred attorney to protect y’all. He keeps posting about keeping Wootton Wonderful and Asian Excellence. Seems like a great champ for your cause. |
I would love to get a group of Wootton ladies of all races together to go yell at some racist white dudes! |
