If she has a receipt, what is there not to believe?

That isn't how you steal something. And the guy beside her had his phone open to the app and scanned the QR code during the video so he had already paid.

Starting to say the guys were thieves and stealing a bike really doesn't help anything about this situation.

But, why would they do that with her on it? Why not just contact the company then physically grab her and the bike to shove it back? Why make nasty comments about her being pregnant and the baby. Why film it as your first response? The entire situation makes no sense. Maybe he didn't pay already and she had paid and he was scanning it to get a receipt to show her he paid, despite her having already paid for it.

I agree it all doesn't yet make sense. I still don't know exactly what happened. The video starts when the confrontation is already underway and people often film confrontations now. It doesn't seem filming it was a first response given when the filming starts and that it is by a friend - not the guy at the bike. I don't think he physically grabs her either. Since the guys in te video haven't come forward, I am pretty sure they know they were in the wrong. I don't know who or how the video was released and we haven't heard from any of the witnesses yet as to what was going on pre video. We still only have a couple of snippets of the full story.

It's very interesting the men don't come forward, you cannot see the entire video and what happened before or after. He is physical with her if he's grabbing the bike and shoving it back on the rack or trying to take it from her. Granted she should have just gotten off the bike, walked away and if they followed call the police or go back to the hospital to security or something, just to avoid the situation (not blaming her but why stand there and risk something worse happening). At some point, the men will be identified as one had to have posted it online so it should be easy enough to identify them. And, there should be security camera's on the streets around maybe that caught the incident. But, I simply don't get why the men would bother to approach her for a bike when there were plenty there.

They both thought they’d rented the bike first, and dug in their heels. Either one of them could have chosen another bike.

Decades ago, I was walking in a city, minding my own business when a group of middle-school aged kids who had been tossing rocks at passing cars started throwing rocks at pedestrians, including me.

I lost my mind yelling at those kids. Try keeping your cool when rocks are being thrown at you. They ran away giggling. If this had been in today's day and age, I'm sure they would have filmed it and I would look psychotic.

It was completely unfair for the media pile on to smear that woman's character. I wish her every success in her defamation lawsuits.

You are right, I did not see the posted receipt, but like I said, even if she did pay for the bike her behavior earned her that title. As a professional who works in a hospital setting it is frightening to think of her working with patients! I would think she would have used better judgment.

Yes, be a good girl and cede her space and property to men.

I wouldn’t have cared! When I was pregnant If I thought I was in an unsafe situation all that mattered to me was protecting my safety, it wouldn’t have been trying to prove a point or worrying about a bike that I didn’t even own. Geesh!

It is apparently a rough area so my guess is that she’s been harassed before. She probably thought she could essentially ignore them, not really engage, and just be on her way. She had no idea that they would get physical with her and start filming.

+1

That sounds very scary.

Her gofundme goal was initially 35k.
It has been revised multiple times: 50k, 75k and now to 95k.

Exactly.

I don’t think people thought she was actually trying to rob the kids because that’s asinine. I thought it was more of a situation where she thought it was hers and wouldn’t listen to the boys saying she was wrong. People refuse to admit they’re wrong ALL the time (look at this thread lol).

It appears based on receipts and her lawyer’s statement that I misinterpreted the situation and I’m willing to admit that.

They said they blured it for online sharing purposes because it shows when she gets off work and she's being harassed. They obviously will have to provide the unblurred copy for any defamation suit. You really think a reputable lawyer is lying about the time stamp??

Cringe.

How terrible. A bunch of men ganging up on a pregnant woman? I guess all of these men grew up in a home without a father and weren’t taught how to respect women. They simply don’t know any better.

No wonder workers don’t want to come back FT to offices in Manhattan. Living and working from home from CT or Westchester is a much better option and way safer. Way fewer dudes who will even argue with a pregnant woman about a bike.

Honestly, even if she did, her fake crying, theatrics and aggressive behavior snatching the phone makes her appear to be in the wrong. She was so distraught yet she remembered to take off her badge?? She knew exactly what she was doing. If she was that concerned for her unborn fetus she would have retreated because why take a chance going up against a “pack” (as someone on this thread so eloquently described these young black men) of youngsters over a rented bike? Why chance it? Especially since they were so threatening? That woman is full of it. The only reason many of you are so invested in proving her right is because you have displayed similar behavior or know you are capable of doing so and hate the thought that there are consequences for that type of behavior now.

None of this matters. If you’re raised with any class or manners you don’t fight with a pregnant woman over a bike. End of story.
