Official Brett Kavanaugh Thread, Part 3

As was even stated during the hearing, she would have been protected AND her allegations would have been seriously investigated if the chair of the committee had asked trump to call a FBI investigation to handle it. They could denied her that option. Don't fall for the grandstanding BS about GOP being willing to take it quietly - it was merely a diversion. This was a chess match and they threw that offer in but her attorneys protected her. Her desire was for this to be considered by the committee. This allegation would have been in the recycle bin before they got to SFO for their return flight.

Why do you think they weren't working for Ford's interests?

Because she wanted as little publicity as possible and likely would have taken the Rs up on their offer to come to CA and take her testimony quietly. She seemed surprised to learn of that offer, and actually said thank you.

The lawyers definitely should have told her of her option. They clearly had a conflict of interest.....to do what's best for their client, or what's best for the Democrats who recommended their legal services. They do not necessarily align.

Do you mean that she didn't want death threats? She wanted her story told. Her lawyers absolutely represented her interets.

Or a teacher, or a basketball coach, or a reader at Blessed Sacrament.

This guy is a fraud and should be ashamed of himself.

Email from Blessed Sacrament today (Kav the choir boy's full-time church) announced a virtual town hall about the abuse and culture of secrecy that is shaking the Catholic Church. Kind of amazing timing, don't you think? BTW I am Catholic.

If you truly are Catholic then I suggest you go to reconciliation because no decent person, let alone a decent Catholic, would talk about anyone the way you just did. You need to examine your conscience.

So true. And the worst thing is that certain elements of the Blessed Sacrament community have started referring to "Coach K" as "Coach Rapey." How cruel!

Are they "Coach K" alumni?

A mix of the community. They must know that referring to Coach K as Coach Rapey is heartbreaking, right?

She specifically said that Katz and Bromwich were *not* among those that DiFi's office recommended. You're really reaching.

They told her the option. They did not go in to detail because they were doing THEIR JOBS. It was not in her best interests to do that. NOT AT ALL.

No, what’s heartbreaking is what he did to Ford and others to deserve it.

The committee was never going to go to CA for Ford. The offer was to send some staffers to interview her, not quite the same thing.

Who really thinks that this BS calling for a FBI investigation will change anything.

So if the FBI clears him, then it will be we can’t vote for him cuz abortion, gun laws, etc.. it will then be another set off issues.

How exactly would the FBI “clear” him? Not turning up anything new would surprise no one, and wouldn’t mean that he has been proven innocent.

He's presumed innocent unless proven otherwise. And I know....I know....it's not a trial, but the same principle applies: you can't prove a negative.

SHE has to prove that he's guilty, not the other way around.

Huh? She does not have to prove anything. She just has to be truthful. Even Republicans found her credible.

So are you saying that an allegation, even if the person making it sounds credible, is sufficient to ruin someone’s career? Do you realize what that opens the door for? She essentially has no corroborating evidence, and the people she identified as being in a position to support her accusation either denied knowledge or outright refuted it. I can’t understand how so many are willing to destroy this guy (or anyone) over an unsubstantiated allegation. I guess I do understand - you hate his politics and/or the person who nominated him.

What? Whose career is getting ruined, exactly? Cavanaugh has a lifetime judgeship, just not at the court he wants. You make it sound like he's about to go panhandle at the corner of 18th and K. He was fine before this nomination and he'll be fine after it. His children will retain their well fed look, I assure you.

That's what liberals tell themselves to assuage their guilt for destroying a man.

OK, then please, explain. In what way is his career ruined? Is he losing his lifetime judgeship?

In what way is he destroyed? Is he losing his job? His house? His family? His legs or arms? His freedom? His friends? The worst that could happen to him is that he won't get a Supreme Court seat. If this is your definition of destruction then virtually everyone in this country has been destroyed. Since so few people get to sit on the highest court of the land.

You know who is destroyed? That guy in Syria who lost his infant twins, wife and house in the chemical attack. That's the picture of a life destroyed.

Kavanaugh? Nah. He'll be fine.

Why do you assume that people will stop at preventing him from being on the Supreme Court?
There have already been calls to try and remove him from the court of appeals: https://now.org/media-center/press-release/brett-kavanaugh-should-be-removed-from-the-bench/

So no, the "worst that could happen" isn't just not getting to be a Supreme Court Justice.

And, if you think he's guilty, and if you think he knows he's guilty, then this is reasonable. Not just because of what he did - we might be able to excuse a teenager's brutish behavior from way-back-when - but because he lied about it, which indicates a lack of remorse as an adult that makes him unfit to judge others.

But if you think he's guilty, but doesn't know he's guilty because he was black out drunk or whatever your preferred scenario is, then this might not be reasonable. If we start going after all of us middle aged people for the stuff we got away with (remembered or not) in our youth, even if we perform our current functions well and seem like perfectly reasonable people, we're going to have quite a line at the guillotine.

And if you think he's not guilty, then it's not even remotely reasonable.

We think his entitled whine-fest yesterday made it very clear he's unfit. No use digging out more dirt, he laid it all out for us.

Your comment isn't clear. Unfit for which - Supreme Court Justice, sitting on the Court of Appeals in his current position, or both?

DP, but I'd say both.

It wouldn't surprise me to find many people feel this way. If I think the man is unfit to sit on the Supreme Court, what mental gymnastics am I going through to be ok with him remaining in his current position?

People who think the only think he faces losing is a seat on the Supreme Court must be doing some impressive mental gymnastics of their own.

Where did you get the idea that what you think about his keeping his current job matters? What you think or what the general public think does not matter.

1. The friend that she went to the party with does not support her story. If things happened the way that she said they did, her friend would have remembered that night. She left the party without talking to her friend. That friend would have been angry. Two girls at a house with 4 boys and one of them leaves without telling the other? That friend would have called her the next day asking what the heck happened. Also what kind of friend gets assaulted by two guys and leaves her friend in the house with the same two guys???

2. Her family is not supporting her. That is very telling.

Wow. Exactly.

If he had just come out and said when he was young and foolish he was young and foolish (ala Bush) and apologized for scaring and traumatizing Ford he would be scotfree. Lies bite you on the a$$

For some reason it really bugs me that the person who created it tweeted it and got 3k retweets but this other random comedian shares it (doesn't retweet, but downloads it and uploads it again) gets 84k retweets

That’s not “for some reason.” Intellectual dishonesty sucks. (Elara Pictures seems to be the original masher)

I’m thinking a lot of you should think about going into the field of investigating. You seem to know that we are no longer talking about “brewskis,” but about cocaine. You seem to know more about the life of Brett Kavanaugh on the evening of July 1 then he knows about himself. You seem to KNOW he was present in a room somewhere, on some date back in 1982, with a woman who said he committed attempted rape. Even though he has sworn he was never there. You seem to like tracking down where “Timmy’s” house was because you KNOW this alleged assault happened on July 1 at Timmy’s house. You seem to know that the things written in Kavanaugh’s yearbook were absolutely NOT what he said they meant because, yes, you are a top-notch investigator and because you are so good, you know more than the owner of the yearbook. And, you also know that Dr. Ford is telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth because, well, just because.

Yes, indeed. I do think you should go into investigations. You may as well get paid for it since you seem to be spending so much time doing it.

You people are insane. Absolutely insane.

Keep up.
1. The friend texted her to tell her she believed her and that the lawyer wrote the statement saying she didn't remember the night. (This was covered at the hearing, if you were paying attention. No one is disputing this.)

2. Her family is supporting her. They just were not there. Someone already called their house and her father's statement was that they love and support their daughter.

Actually we are simply updating people who continue to spout off things that have already been disproven or are straight out lies from the beginning. That isn't investigating. The FBI are investigators and should have been brought in once she decided to put her life at risk and come forward.
