I’m not arguing about DG as I don’t know anything about him. But the comment by the PP: “Just because you and others may not like a certain coaching style, that does not entitle you talk badly or misinform others solely based on your own opinion.” Aren’t Yelp and all other restaurant, product and service review sites are all based upon ones opinion? |
I’ve seen DG coach in person and he is a horrible human being. |
Are you being serious? I am actually thinking about having my DD tryout this Spring. She loves playing the #10 Position (attacking midfielder) and is crazy about soccer. She wants to move up to an ECNL team. |
That program has a very high turn over rate. The word is the coach is a yeller(as derogatory loud comments to kids) vs just loud. Some parents(the one who have kids on the first team) love it till the coach turns on their kid. I have seen this at other clubs. Parents love the “tough” coach. The kids hate him or her. |
| plus you get to travel to Philly and NJ, baltimore, or annapolis to play a 70-minute game of which your player may play 20 minutes unless they are a starter |
| some of the away games in NJ are literally 30-40 minutes away form NYC |
| great question to ask before joining an ECNL team "if my DD is not a starter, how much playing time can she expect to get per game"... buyer beware |
So you are judging someone just because you have "seen" him coach? And because you have "seen" him yell, it makes him a horrible human being? Can I judge you based on your post I have just seen? If I were, you might likely fall in that "horrible human being" category if I use your standards. Wow. |
I would suggest you take everything you read here with a grain of salt. Many want to post ugly things about other programs and coaches just to put a certain club in a bad light. While I do not partake in this kind of thing, there are threads involving almost every club in the DMV. It seems something bad can be said for everyone. My advice to you would be to attend as many Practices as you can at Bethesda, McLean, Metro United or wherever is convenient. Make your choice solely on if your think your DD will perform for the coach, get along with teammates, and have the least amount of dramatic parents. Winning doesn't matter if your daughter finds a coach she likes because she will try her best and develop under him/her. Lastly, as I have a DD that plays for DG on one the ECNL teams...She absolutely respects him and wants to work hard to gain more respect from him. We think it is fantastic. The yelling and sarcastic comments do not bother her. Yes, sometimes when a bad mistake is made, he can be harsh. During the Fall season, I witnessed that 2 or 3 times at the very most. Same with KL. DG once really upset my DD this season, which in hindsight, was her fault. She got over it after a few days and everything was fine. To counter that, many actually appreciate that kind of coaching. We do and we liken it to something called accountability. It's a lost character trait people it seems in this crazy world. Good Luck to finding the right team. There is a lot of quality out there and if you go about your search the right way, and don't believe a thing you read here, you will put your daughter at the right place. |

Yup, it doesn’t take much to determine if a person is a horrible human. I won’t speak to his coaching but his character as a person is terrible. |
Yes, I am being serious. He is awful. I would not expose your kid to him. There are to many good coaches and programs around to have your child exposed to him. |
And keep in mind, the following quote is from a defender of his. I said he is a horrible human, this is how someone who likes him portrays him; “ The yelling and sarcastic comments do not bother her. Yes, sometimes when a bad mistake is made, he can be harsh.” |
A coach can both be right, hold kids accountable and not be a asshole to middle school kids. He is a petulant little man who doesn’t know how to communicate. The bright side is you’ll never have to yell at your kid on the ride home because DG will have done that for you in front of everyone. |

^ This is extremely disappointing. Being in the Rockville area, driving to BSC for practices would be much more convenient than going to McLean during rush hour especially when COVID is over.
There’s no way my wife and I can handle watching my DD being chewed out by any grown man. I teach my DD not to tolerate these types of behavior. Heck, I am a company executive and I don’t allow that behavior from professional adults with each other. I guess we will have to stick to EDP. |
