That’s extreme heat for a one year old and furry dog. |
This article says the bodies were airlifted on Wednesday afternoon. https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article253577919.html |
What about COVID? Maybe they all went through a recent bout of COVID and seemed to have recovered. But, in fact, they (one or both the adults) had decreased lung capacity or other sickness-related debilitation. They misjudged their fitness and abilities on that day. |
I'm leaning toward a bad case of the flu. |
I posted a map way earlier in thread to show the Hites Cove Trail Rd, the easier trail and a great catch by a pp. When I first saw the map, I was ahhh they took the wrong trail on the right, Hites Cove Trail (san Road). Now, I'm leaning toward something more. I won't say because it's ongoing. But I agree with other pp's, the parents were negligent before they even stepped on the trail. If only one parent survived, I'd bet they'd be lawyering up on suspicion of negligent homicide. The pp that said it's as bad as leaving a child/pet in a hot car was spot on. It's so tragic, and was so preventable. The real victims are the baby and dog. It all feels wrong. I got a weird vibe looking at the family picture. Nanny must have been interviewed in depth about the parents. Also, I agree with another poster about the oddity of mom not having a cell, and dad not having an emergency location device.
Wish the "Spirit Reader" would chime in.
Come on, please tell us (bolded). Those of us who have read 100+ pages of this thread pages are listening. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Many people in the Grand Canyon are found dead in a seated position - sitting stuck on ledges, sitting where they stopped to rest. Another kind of interesting fact, people often die because they wander off the trails - sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. In some of the remote areas, it can be hard to identify the trail. They literally walk off a cliff or hike down a trail they can't see well and get stuck on a ledge with a tremenous drop below them and they cant climb back up. |

I don’t think it’s that odd the mom didn’t have her cell phone with her. There’s no reception anyways so why carry the few extra ounces. I hike often and if I know there will be no cell service, I don’t carry it. DH carries one for pictures and emergencies. It’s essential to pack light on strenuous trips. Every ounce matters.
And PP who got a “weird vibe” from the family photos—why? They looked happy, successful, and adventurous. |
The article from Outside had a really good explanation of the effects of exercise on heat stroke. If you go to the bottom, there are additional articles talking about how some athletes do things like ultramarathon in 100+ temperatures. |
There's a reason they closed the forest to hiking. They have an idea what happened, they're waiting for confirmation before telling the public |

+1 Spill! I fixed the format and everything. |
DP. That's not a reason to close the forest to hiking. Heat might be; a different type of hazard would be. Murder is not. |
