Looking at the anti-Obama ranting on here, I ask myself if we liberals were as extreme about Bush. While I don't think we were ever as obsessive about mindless stuff like how he smelled, I admit that things like the village idiot bumper sticker, or the Curious George stuff, were pretty bad. What makes me feel really guilty in retrospect is the fact that I fully expect the next Republican president to make me nostalgic for Bush.
Yes, I know a bunch of you out there (or is it always the same two or three people?) already feel nostalgic for Bush, but I'm mainly addressing this to people who see the same world I do. |
Although I'm probably not one of the people who "sees the world as you do" :0) (and I don't mean that in a mean way), I think the poster who constantly brings up President Obama's scent has OCD and "oddness" issues that go way beyond any dislike of Obama as president. The number of postings and the way they're worded can only be described as bizarre. |
to answer your question, yes. the anti-bush hysteria was every bit as absurd as the criticisms of Obama. People hated that man. I never understood it. |
The level of expectation from George W. was low and the level of expectation from Obama was high high. Too many of up accepted his rhetoric as truth and his inexerience as a minor issue. Now we know that he is the world's largest source of untapped natural gas. |
Where are the so-called smelly threads?
I have some anti Obama views but have not written or seen anything that silly. |
LOL!
Oh wait, are you serious OP? |
When somebody writes and performs play about killing Obama then the conservatives will have matched the libs. That will never be tolorated by the more decent conservative side which makes me proud of them. Michelle was politically foolish to reveal the presidents chronic body odor problem. (along with his sloppy habits of smoking/not picking up his dirty socks/ uncoordination) it doesn't cut a dashing figure. The CBS reporter who revealed obama's plane always smelled terrible while Mccains was organized and clean was just being honest but he could have just put a clothespin on his nose and kept it to himself. The president often has flies all around him and sometimes they land on his face when giving speaches but he can't help that. I think people should be nice to him while we all wait for a more intelligent (and cleaner) replacement. |
Well done. |
I'm going to give you the same warning as the other guy that has been disrupting threads. Either begin participating seriously, stop participating here, or prepare to have your participation ended. I am tired of having thread after thread disrupted by you and your obsession with body oder. There are plenty of conservatives here with whom I've never had a problem. If there were a liberal acting in a similar manner, I'd say the same thing. |
You guys were way worse. You called him a monkey, compared him to Adolf Hitler, and many on the left openly fantasized about his death. Bagging on Michelle for her guns and eating ribs, while juvenile, is nowhere close. The teleprompter stuff is a fair criticism of a man who was sold by the media as the second coming of Cicero or Pericles.
It's a lot more fair to accuse Obama of being a socialist (while not technically accurate, his heart points in that direction) then to call Bush a Nazi. My God, Bush even signed a massive new Medicare drug entitlement into law and is in favor of open borders, and he *still* couldn't get any love from the left. You guys are a tough crowd. Truthfully, though, I didn't like Bush either. While not as bad as the Dems made him out to be, he wasn't good. Nowhere close to the president his father was. The stuff about the village idiot was funny, too. The Chimpy McBushitler stuff was not. |
Mr. Steele, please just ban the guy. ![]() |
I agree for the most part with the above PP.
For me, the thing that was/is completely unforgivable in my eyes about GWB was his reaction to 9/11. I feel like he and his administration preyed on the most base of our fears to put the US into wars without any reasoned debate on the issue of whether or not it made good sense to go to Iraq (based on bad intel) or Afghanistan (and start in with Al Qaeda who are arguably also strong in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and Yemen....). I just can't forgive the way that whole thing was handled- we're still dealing with its effects. |
I think it was at least as bad, probably worse. And I was no fan of GWB. Regardless of political views I feel that at least the office, if not the man deserves some modicum of respect. I can imagine few jobs that are tougher and you are guaranteed to piss off a few million people on a daily basis no matter what you do. So give the guys a fair shot and at least treat them with respect and judge them based on the issues.

I think the vitriol towards Obama is based in part on his race. So no I don't think it was as bad with Bush.
|
The race thing is a tired issue. It was "the other race" that elected him. |
