I know that their email to players who went through the winter ID sessions said offers will come in "mid to late April" but I wonder if they plan to send offers out before, between or after the April 11 and April 22 ID sessions. I'd love to wrap up our plans for next year as early as possible.

I'm wondering the same thing. We got the original email but no invitation to these new sessions, so I'm guessing we don't need to go, but haven't heard about the offer timing.

I hate to say this. But based on my experience, you might not get offer if they didn't contact you for a significant of time after tryout. You might want to look for other option and simply check with them.

Yes! If a club wants you, they will make the offer immediately. A club is also interested in wrapping up their teams asap, but for the players they are on the fence on, they will wait and see.

Arlington Boys DA is sure taking it's time giving offers. They started ID sessions months ago.

And they have come back to parents about 4 weeks ago...

Do you mean they started giving offers 4 weeks ago?

They informed parents whose kids were definitely not considered.
I am not sure whether the others had firm offers or are still been looked at... My understanding was that they did the ID sessions quite early so as to have plenty of time to assess potential recruits.

Sounds like its almost time for Travel Soccer tryouts. Are you seeing that tryouts are happening earlier each year? Our club told us it will be the first week of May. Wondering if things are going to keep moving back (like Black Friday) to get kids to accept sooner. I considered starting a new thread to just discuss tryouts.

Also what are the roster sizes moving to U11? 9v9

I think a new thread for tryouts is a pretty good idea.

ok cool moving my question there.

RE: VDA 07 ID session

My son has been attending the ID sessions for the VDA 2018-19 season thus far. He made the cut for the invite only the last time....but, now for whatever reason they had another ID session yesterday and decided to bring back all players that supposedly did not make the original cut. WTF is that all about ? any wisdom from any seasoned parents out there? (so basically all 45+ players showed up yesterday)

Thanks,
Confused Parent

Did VDA "bring back" the previous players or did these players simply show up? ID sessions are pretty open and usually you just have to enlist on the website to attend them.

Might then be that they were not convinced by the players who were invited to the invite-only sessions. It is difficult to assess a player just on the basis of the crowded ID sessions and it goes both ways (average players having a good day and good players having an average day).

We went to a VDA ID session and had no idea how they were tracking down players. Only one coach had a clip board, no one taking notes, kids didn’t have numbers. How do they do it? Seemed pretty disorganized.

Well if its anything like last year, Quan will mostly make up his team with kids who have an HP elite affiliation. It's the ole pay to play problem. My kid should have made the team but we never funded his pocket book.

Obvious conflict of interest with him. He should never be allowed to run a for profit biz in the same geographic area as his DA team. Quan completely undermines the DA program for selfish reasons.

This post is absolute bullshit.

There is no US Soccer mention of VDA dropping out of GDA either and yet it happened. It is not like leagues announce who they lost.

Wait -- VDA is adding boys teams and dropping girls? Are you serious?

Not exactly sure why this is surprising. DA is the clear cut top level for boys. For girls there is a debate between DA vs ECNL. I'm not really sure why you would switch from one to the other at this point, but I guess there could be an argument...somewhere.

Because VDA’s TD is now the “head” of US Youth Soccer, which is closely affiliated with ECNL

The top players are fleeing VDA now

The middle players are leaving at end of season.

And the lower level players can’t wait to play high school and have D1 schools knocking on their door.

Very poorly executed plan by Mike Cullina. I wouldn’t trust this VECNL bunch to setup and maintain a dodge ball league. Really poor execution.

How so? Poster seems to have a good point. If I as a coach have private training sessions that include players who eventually try out for my DA team, I would more than likely select those players I have a relationship with. Makes sense to me.

I bet you attend those HP sessions, don't you?
