Is an August kid cheating if they are in the same grade as the Sept-Dec kids? |
Yep, if you want to play for your grade, you may have to be on a second or third team. Nothing wrong with that. What would be wrong is forcing people into that. If they want to be in the Aug-Jul cohort, leave em be. |
Yes, compete. If you can play up beyond, Aug-Jul, do it. Leave everyone else alone. |
Whats the link? |
Not an issue for ECNL, they don't allow kids to play in the age group below theres. |
It is same troll that says he was at GA meetings when he wasnt.
The only other option is intellectual dishonestly or intellectual disability. Or maybe a bit of both. Remember there are like 3 posters that account for 80% of all posts according to IP data. -August birthdays choose to play up or down. It is no more cheating than saying a Jan birthday in BY is cheating by playing with kids in the lower grade currently -There are several states with start dates later than 9-1. In a 10-31 state should we force the Sept and October kids to play with their grade or give them the choice? -Forcing anyone to play up is putting them at a month, two months, three month disadvantage. If they want to, more power to them but if they want to play with the same 12 month cohort that is fine as well. -We eliminated trapped players due to it being unfair. Forcing a kid to play against kids potentially 13-15 months older is also unfair. -If you want your august kid to get an advantage, move to an 8-1 state and have fun in high school.😂 |
Amazing how parents these days want everything to be contrived and catered perfectly for their child. All sports do a year cutoff and it’s never perfect by grade. Growing up club baseball was a May 1st cutoff and I was an April bday. Did my parents or I give one f all or bring it up to anyone? Hell effing no. Did it benefit me? Probably as I played against faster pitching earlier on which may have helped me start earlier in HS. But I never had a single second of awareness about it growing up nor did my parents. It wasn’t till 30 years later I enter a forum of today’s parents who are all effing nutjobs. |
New ECNL podcast: Is Age Just A Number? Navigating Birth Years and Team Placements | Ep. 124 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHG0uQjpaBY |
All arguments after "Remember there are like 3 posters that account for 80% of all posts according to IP data." are invalid - you don't run this site - you don't know that and you're just pulling it out of your *** like the rest of your arguments |
Finally !! ECNL confirms that they will be switching to SY. Minute 5:10 of today's podcast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHG0uQjpaBY "Yeah. I mean I think the first thing to say is to confirm that we as the ECNL are supporting this change. Um I I know I' I've heard some some questions about that out there. Obviously, US Club Soccer is our partner and our sanctioning body. Uh they've put a lot of information out about this change. Um and we're in a lot of ways um the organization that kind of spearheaded this conversation uh coming to the forefront um so that we could get get to here. So, but I I have heard questions of people saying will ECNL do it and the answer to that question is yes. " |
On the podcast, not much new. We all knew ECNL was transitioning to 8/1. This is official confirmation at best.
Now will MLSN/GA make the move is the question that keeps this thread alive |
They were very careful not to specifically call out Aug birthdays. |
“Other factors” is code for ECNL coach Venmo game.
This is going to be a total circus. |
These guys are exactly the problem with Youth soccer in this country. The oversized ECNL Hat is just **Chef's Kiss** |
Indeed. Business wise it’s not a great move if they want to maintain their building dominance over ECNL. And they will lose some talent. Parents and even kids given the option to be starters or first teamers in a SY league will take it over the P2P MLSN badge. Ultimately, the MLSN academies will lose out too because assuming all those kids will funnel back to MLSN is not realistic. I think the other argument is the MLSN model is not a favorite of even most hardcore parents and kids. Too much travel for regular season games and they are all hip to the MLS badge as being a total sham. It definitely won’t be attractive to clubs either having to mange 2 systems. That said small chance it could still happen. I doubt we here though till the end of the year. |
