Gotcha - so you're an idiot. Thanks for confirming. |
So what about the 30% of the country that do not have a Sept 1 school cutoff? Some are pretty late. Then do you have a rule that those four to five months worth of kids cannot play in their age matrix? I do not see how that works across the board. |
Dust off the policy from 2015, because this was what we had before. |
100% |
With grad year this can all be fixed! |
And yet this is why 9/1 would have been a better choice. Less misalignment. |
There’s a reason they went with 8/1 and that’s most boys start late not early. |
Nope, that'll just introduce much older kids playing with younger ones purely for advantage like in other youth sports. |
What is much older? And how do you decide that? Is a July kid held back much older? Would only be 1 month older than Aug kids? So should freshman be able to play varsity or not? It wouldn’t be fair for a freshman to take a seniors spot? Either kids are good enough or they aren’t 1 year doesn’t matter most elite players can and do play up. I’m not for Grad Year but you cowards who treat it like the boogy man have kids weak as wet toilet paper. COMPETE regardless of age groupings. |
Ahhh maybe they should have different age cutoffs off for girls then, because their parents tend to start them on time. |
With GY sports crazy parents hold their kid back in middle school as long as possible. (Usually 2 years) This gives their kid an advantage in sports and translates into 16 year old freshman and 20 year old seniors. |
Check out the new podcast! All about age grouping. |
On time or early. |
If a kid is playing down a SY the chances of them having any significant playing time playing in their actual SY team for showcases is obviously very low. Also kids who are on SY who are on lower teams because of kids playing down a SY taking their spot is unfortunate. They won’t have the same chances to get scouted at major tournaments and just doesn’t make sense. There is nothing wrong playing on the second team in your school year. You will have a better chance to play in college at whatever Division than playing a SY down where you are showing you can’t play within your SY let alone against older men/woman at the next level. |
If you can compete with 20 year old seniors at 18 how would you compete with 22/23 year old college players? Also I’ve never heard of a 20 year old high school student that is academically sound and playing sports. |
