Currently have Vienna, Valor, Villarreal, and Braddock Road.

Two more clubs are joining soon. Who will they be?

Where are you seeing "two more joining soon" Seems like it already happened. The PR in Feb when MYS left noted that BRYC and VYS remained. Then in March they announced VALOR and VIVA had joined.

Yeah is this a rumor or does the PP have some inside knowledge? Seems an odd comment to just throw out there.

I'm not sure how any new partner clubs makes a difference either way. As long as FVU becomes the main destination for FFX County residents, they will be fine. Who is actually looking to drive an hour+ for practices these days? Maybe only a handful of players as Return to Office keeps trending in this direction.

It makes a difference if you are on one of the rumored new clubs. Just wondering if the OP had some inside scoop or if it was just a guess.

So then basically on the boys side the new top team (lets call it "Dark Green") will play MLS Next Tier II, which MYS is "positioning/branding" as roughly the equiv of an ECNL team. The 2nd team (Green) will play NAL, which MYS is "positioning/branding" as roughly equiv of an ECNL-RL team. The rest (White, Gold, Silver) will play in some combo of NCSL and/or EDP.

I put "positioning/branding" in quotes because, per the slides, the comparability of the leagues is typically in eye of the beholder.

Correct for U13 and above. And however they brand it, McLean boys does not have a team in Tier 1 of their choose top league (MLSNext 1), where other clubs do. So recruiting/keeping players may be a challenge, as anyone who has aspirations of a top level team will presumably want to move to a club where they have potential to move up.

Confused by this. In the DC area, are you saying clubs like Alexandria, Bethesda, Springfield (all of which are in MLS Next today) are keeping their Tier 1 teams AND adding new teams for Tier 2 - and thus exists the development pathway you reference? So is the idea that MLS Next Tier 2 teams will have a chance for "promotion" into Tier 1? This whole things seems like a giant money grab by just creating more tiers so you're always chasing the next carrot. I am betting that several of these clubs moving from ECNL to MLS Next will look back and regret the decision in 2-3 years once they see that this is all designed as a money grab from the parents.

Same money grab as ECNL RL.

Is business and marketing a money grab? That would make just about everything you purchase a money grab. It’s called capitalism.

+1. It totally makes sense, both for MLSN and the club, for MLSN to host a second level of competition to capture the 2nd teams at existing MLSN clubs or as an entry point for new clubs. The parents are going to pay for it regardless, so MLSN may as well use their existing infrastructure to host it..

Can anyone here explain why a club would move from one league to another in this context? So for example McLean ... what's in it for McLean to move from ECNL/RL to MSLN2? If the above statements are true that Tier2 team A = ECNL level and Tier2 team B NAL = ECNL-RL level, then is the lure to move to MSLN the prospects of getting a Tier 1 team that is "better" than the teams they fielded by FFX Union? Or, is it that the economics of MLSN are more favorable to the club somehow (i.e. lower fees; higher revenue sharing; etc?) I dont know enough about the economics to truly understand the drivers behind these decisions. I'd welcome if others had an informed viewpoint on this.

ECNL didn't allow McLean to stay in ECNL without being part of an alliance. They weren't happy in FVU because they didn't have enough power and weren't getting 100% of the money. So they looked at an alternative to ECNL that would allow them to operate independently again. None of this was done for the benefit of any of the players. This was all about what McLean thought was best for its club to make money.

I would argue that on the girls side, the new arrangement (GA) is a clear benefit for the MYS players. The top players get the GA platform rather than RL.

Again, the FVU alliance provided little to no benefit to MYS or its players. It was a marketing deal. ECNL is about the best players. Look at the ECNL rosters, very few of the players are from the clubs' grassroots/rec level. What club they come from has little impact. Do you think that if FVU is building a roster they are going to take a lesser VIVA girl over a better MYS girl just b/c VIVA is "in the alliance"?

Not really, ID sessions are almost done and it's really a next year thing. If you have a rising U12 who is good and at one of these Clubs they seem to be saying they will provide some extra opportunities for you to encourage you to stick around FVU for U13.

Exactly. So, think about it for a moment. When the majority of clubs are in GA and MLS who is VYS and BYC going to play? Well over 50% of the clubs in the DC area are already in GA or moving to GA. Therefore, good luck to ECNL to find local clubs to play against. In the end, for most parents who don't have kids seeking scholarships they just want their kids to play on a local team.

Why sign your child up for GA or ECNL if you don’t want to travel?

Are there 2 Clubs left? Great Falls? Herndon? Lee/Mount Vernon?
I'm assuming they would be Fairfax County ECNL-R Clubs...

Exactly. Don't try out for an MLSNext team if you aren't willing to give up high school soccer. Don't try out for an ECNL or MLSNext or GA1 team if you're not willing to travel or if you don't understand you'll probably have to give up other high school or Club sports. People like the idea of their child being on a top team or elite Club but don't want to commit to what that means.
Figure out what your kid wants and choose accordingly, because other people are and don't want to hear you complain.

GFR, Arlington, Valor, Stafford, and VSA all generally have stronger RL girls’ teams than McLean.

PWSI, LMVSC, DCSC, and BRYC also remain, but need to improve their girls’ RL teams.

RL also has strong teams in the south division, with teams such as United, Strikers, and Reign.

My club in the NA ECNL regularly schedules friendlies against all the local GA clubs. They'll continue to play their normal schedule and supplement as necessary.

I wonder if Sterling would be in the mix. I know it is not Fairfax County, but it is on the border (very close to Herndon and Reston). That would allow for some in-roads into Loudoun County especially now that there is no ECNL team in Loudoun. I just don't know much about Sterling's program... is it worthwhile to bring over to Union? Can't be any worse that Villareal, right?

Sorry, but this is a really dumb statement. Good luck playing local clubs to play against? Uh the whole point of ECNL is it is a NATIONAL league so of course parents signing up for ECNL will know they will have to travel. DMV has been spoiled with all the clubs in ECNL in the past, a lot of them moving to MLS Next/GA is actually a good thing for ECNL. Doesn't dilute the league and weeds out those that aren't in it to play at the next level. Kids want to play on a local team? Go play rec, travel isn't for you. SMH

Herndon is in with VDA. If GFR was happening, wouldn’t that have been announced by now?

LMVSC makes sense.
