I can only assume it’s rooted in homophobia and a questioning of one’s own sexuality.

Gay porn is needed in high school? Yikes.

Because it's not gay porn. Yikes.
Of course it is.

Is it obscene by definition of the law? Are any of these books being removed obscene by definition of the law?

After reviewing obscenity laws they certainly should be. But there's a even lower bar to clear: porn has no place in schools.

pornography:

: the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement
2
: material (such as books or a photograph) that depicts erotic behavior and is intended to cause sexual excitement
3
: the depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick intense emotional reaction

None of these books are meant to arouse. They are meant to inform. Sounds like you need to be "informed"

I posted at the bottom of the page just before this. Yes, book banner, it is meant to inform. It is meant to inform teens and young adults about how to have conversations about sex experiences. “That didn’t work for me” “It didn’t work for me either.” It’s been about a year since I read Genderqueer (though I have read it and you have OBVIOUSLY have not) and I believe both of the depicted people say it didn’t feel sexy or right and they were going to approach it differently. It’s not meant to titillate. It’s not meant to arouse. It’s depicting how two people with those sexualities and bodies might approach sexual behavior and how they, like everyone who starts out, have to figure out where their boundaries are, what feels sexy, etc.

Further, you won’t find that book in elementary schools. Middle, maybe. High school, maybe. Will you even find a lot of kids checking it out? Probably not. Is the conversation those two characters have a good one to see? Yes, yes it is. Now go read it or stop posting dullard comments until you do.

Then let’s talk about the 1000+ books about women’s history and Black history that have been banned.

You make some good points. The counterpoint is that porn doesn't belong in schools.

No books have been banned and more than Maxim or Penthouse have been banned. The collections have simply been curated. But you know this. You simply want gay porn read and CRT taught in schools.

Because I don't know what other books people are trying to ban. If you tell me, I'll give my opinion if you'd like it.

I’m a DP from a few pages back who suggested you look into what is being banned in TX, FL, and even here in some local districts in VA. You’re hung up on 2 books. Go look at what some of your other book-banning buddies are trying to remove.
Can you not “do your own research”?
Typical progressive. You have an us vs them mentality. I have no "buddies" on this issue. But to my knowledge, no one is trying to ban books...meaning you can still order all the gay porn you want from Amazon or at your local bookstore.

Not a progressive. Again, please use your preferred search engine to search for lists of books being pulled off of shelves in various school districts throughout the country, but noteably Texas and Florida. You'll find LOTS of titles beyond Lawn Boy and Genderqueer, and most of them aren't being pulled due to "gay porn".
Unless you think biographies of Malala Yousafzai, Harriett Tubman, Rosa Parks, etc constitute "gay porn"? Or, perhaps 1984? The Color Purple? A Separate Peace? How about "Forever" by Judy Blume?

Dp- it’s seems many of the these titles are about empowered women. The previous poster seem to want to vilify librarians ( a traditionally female profession) and want to ban books focused on women’s rights, stories, and struggles. This is all rooted in misogyny.

Of course it is! One of the tenets of fascism is traditional roles only. They don’t want women voting, they don’t want White women working, they don’t want women getting educated. They want rape to what it once was - far more common, with younger victims not understanding what is happening to them and with women keeping their rapes secret for fear of shame. They certainly don’t want women having sex with other women or choosing to abstain from sex at all. And we know for damn sure they want women to have no say in what happens to their bodies - the GOP merrily overturning fifty years of settled law because they hate us as humans and only see a uterus and a vagina.

So yeah. The fascists posting on here have to keep obsessing over not pornography like it’s pornography and making sure that no one goes and talks about why they ban books women and critical thinking and gay families.
This is a woke fever dream. And I just want to make sure I understand your point. People who don't want gay porn in schools are fascists? Is that right?

Oh and I'm liberal BTW.

I used to be liberal too until I realized that today part of being liberal meant welcoming strangers who are fighting to provide kids with sexually graphic material in schools. No thanks.

Show the strap-on dildo pages to 100 people and 95 of them will tell you it's porn. The other 5 are leftists.

You're still liberal (like me). It's progressives who have become illiberal on many topics. Remember liberal doesn't mean "always supports the most insane and far-left position." It means using data, science, critical thinking, etc.

When people talk about how stupid Republicans are, your post is a good example of why that kind of thing is said. - the pp you quoted.
