Oh my. DC is absolutely not going to school tomorrow.

So, omicron is not mild at all. No wonder Fauci has changed his tune again.

This half assed model is still being passed around?

Apparently it was updated today.

The low sperm count is concerning. Are babies born these two years less healthy/intelligent etc if the father was infected?

No one knows. But it is certainly possible.

At such a young age, you'd only be able to get gross measures of functionality, and of course there have been none reported. You are talking about differences that might show up later in life, such as a greater propensity to ADHD, greater incidences of autism, slight decrease on IQ tests, etc... all the usual ills that affect children under adverse prenatal conditions, such as a fetal alcohol syndrome, extreme stress, or other conditions.

In a school with 3200 kids and a few hundred staff members? If that is sustained it might get to the 5% threshold, but just barely.

They are symptomatic. Considering asymptomatic ones and symptomatic but not tested I would guess that it may be around 100 cases in one day. That is OMG.

Who said they were symptomatic?

Even if there were 100 cases, why does it matter if the cases are almost always mild? People that are high risk for severe illness should adjust their behavior, not students.

LIKE PARENTS AND TEACHERS, DUMBASS?

My friend with kids in MCPS recently survived an aggressive cancer with massive chemo and a transplant procedure. He had to get all his childhood vaccines again, plus those for Covid and flu, but he is vulnerable for life.
I know teachers in that scenario too.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? Don't you understand that vulnerable people live in our community and cannot isolate completely?

Stupid moron.

What is it you suggest? This is the world now. It’s going to be a tougher place for some going forward.

So we all need to make some sacrifices for the greater good of our community instead of being selfish and putting others in harm's way.

Such as? Getting vaccinated and mask? Sure. Staying home? No.

Being vaccinated and masking aren't working. How hard is that to understand?

You think a child whose parent has cancer should lose that parent to covid because you are too selfish to care and be cautious. You are probably the one who is privilieged and raves about mental health but don't care about the trauma you are causing to other people's kids.

You think scolding posters on this internet is more impactful than a fart in a hurricane? There are hundreds of thousands of people out in the local DMV this very moment. Your silly hypothetical is beyond irrelevant. No, I'm not staying home.

I can see why your kids need to be in person. I can only imagine what your home life is like.

Really, this is it? Eck, carry on shrieking about bad behavior. I’ve grown used to the background noise.

No, it’s really not. Do you really not understand what sperm count and motility mean?

Are you vaccinated? If so, you may suffer a scratchy throat for a couple days. Not sure if you consider that mild or not.

Denial must be so wonderful, till its not.

You’re right. A huge number will be asymptomatac.

Are they some kind of crude measure of sperm viability? After all we don’t have time to figure out the full impact of covid on sperms yet.

What happened? A few days ago they were just discovering omicron in some states

https://www.cnet.com/health/covid-19-omicron-faq-cases-doubling-nfl-postponement-its-going-to-take-over-fauci-says/

now it makes up 73% of all new cases

https://apnews.com/article/omicron-majority-us-cases-833001ef99862bd6ac17935f65c896cf

are we this bad at tracking it???

Yes. We’ve been doing far less sequencing that most European countries, or places like Israel and South Africa. I think we’ve stepped it up in recent weeks, but having stuff decentralized means many states don’t have the resources to sustain that pace.

Well, the next variant will be PI. It is going to be even more transmissible. When will this end?

Such drama! You have know way of predicting this. There were plenty of variants between Delta and Omicron that fizzled into nothing.

And the answer to your other question: never. It’s not going away, but we’ll eventually learn to mitigate and treat it successfully enough that you won’t need to breathlessly track daily cases unless you work in public health. We’re not there yet, but we’re on the way.

It has to end by Omega, right?
