What your designer bag says about you

Wearing these says I want a designer handbag but I’m terrified that if I buy something even remotely flashy I’ll be judged as tacky.

It says you want to be seen as “above it all” and have to mention it’s from a “fair trade store” while shopping at WF.

+1. Everyone is hoping you finally buy something nice for yourself since you never stop talking about how you don’t. You do REALLY care about what that says about you

You look like someone who should have saved up for the goyard tote. No one believes you when you insist that you “actually just like this one better”

Haha...I have a Franzi tote (similar to this, but black leather trim: https://www.glamood.com/coated-canvas-shopper-easy-bag-P45707.htm)

I'm not sure whether I had even heard of Goyard when I bought it. But I just carry it occasionally as a shopping tote to avoid needing a bag. I guess people probably do think it's a wannabe Goyard, but mostly I just find it convenient and lightweight for a very specific need that I can't imagine spending 4-digits on a bag to meet.

Do people still wear these? I think sahm who uses it as a diaper bag now because she had one when she was in college in an east coast city 15 years ago.

Serious question—do you go out in public ever? I see Longchamp totes all over the place, from Metro to shoppers on 5th Avenue to playgrounds to Rasika.

DP: I wouldn't know one if a toddler hit me over the head with it. Test: What bag do I carry?

Pp, I live on the west coast and no one wears them where I live. It’s all about “free” reusable canvas totes from random upscale businesses and restaurants. They say, I want to look like I don’t care about fashion and money but I regularly spend $40 on a small block of cheese and a pint of blueberries at the farmers market

What about a Barbour quilted tote when running errands or watching your kid’s game in the fall? What does that say?

Every single one of you sound painfully uninteresting and materialistic.

+2 the Longchamp totes are absolutely everywhere. I think they’ve moved past “trend item” and into “unobtrusive staple” category. Kind of like Uggs at this point.

+1

Before covid, it was the basic tote for commuters.

Personally, I prefer my Lo & Sons OG since I often carry two laptops.

Nonetheless, I still have an adorable Longchamp zipper pouch purchased in Paris nearly 30 years ago. I tuck it inside my larger tote when traveling.

Maybe TEN YEARS before Covid. I haven't seen a Le Pliage out in the wild on a fashionable woman in a long time.

What about Botkier? Also too basic for you, OP?
