Not saying that..but most people that shop at Giant and Safeway know the produce is not coming from a small farm. Whole Foods does an excellent job swaying consumers to think their produce is as natural and fresh as if you grew it yourself. People automatically assume that paying more means better quality. I was in Dean and Deluca a few weeks ago doing research and had to laugh that they were selling a jar of imported olives from Greece for $17. My neighbor is Greek and she was with me at the time and she told me that particular brand sells for a couple dollars in Greece and no one would be caught dead with it on their table. How about Britax car seats? All carseats have to meet minimum government standards, but for some reason, due to their excellent marketing, everyone thinks they make the best car seat. In reality, they have the second highest percentage (as a brand) of recalls as other car seats. I know that there are always going to be manufacturing glitches and there is no such thing as the perfectly safe product, but to automatically assume that this partcular brand is the best out there is just wrong...wrong..wrong! britax does not do a lot of marketing...they get a ton of it through word of mouth. and free marketing is the best marketing out there! |
This remind me of that movie Mother, where his Mom is at the supermarket and saying that she won't be fooled by the fancy packaging of a jar of jelly or something. I shop at both Safeway and Whole Foods. I was not under the impression that any of either of their products were local. Whole Foods has waaayyy better produce (than my Safeway) and great prepared food. So I buy it. I also go to the Farmers Market most Saturday mornings to support local farms. I think your theory that if you shop certain places or buy certain stuff you are being duped is pretty silly. People make their own consumer choices. Why does that bother you? And, um, yes - all car seats have to meet minimum government standards. This does not mean they are all the same. They may be the same level of safety, but comfort, whether and how they fit in your car, and various other features are what people distinguish. And you seem to say in the same breath that Britax does "excellent marketing" and that "britax does not do a lot of marketing." Very odd. |
The deal with Britax seats is that 2 of their seats allow for extended harnessing which many parents want especially those with larger babies/toddler who may reasonably outgrow the standard 40lb limit on most car seats before they would safely fit in a regular seat belt and booster. The Britax Marathon goes to 65lbs and the Britax Regent goes to 80lbs. |
wow, this may be the dumbest thread i ever read... why did i read it all?? ok, i'll admit the drama is entertaining. but the whole premise of this question is just asking people to flame each other for no good reason other than to spread the negativity and make others self-conscious. |
YOU are the kind of mother that I abhor running into at a playground. Every freakin 5 seconds you are correcting your kid to share this or share that or give a turn or something. RELAX. A kid can wait 5, 10 even a whole 15 or 20 minutes for a turn. Its a playground for goodness sakes! Find something else to do instead of harrassing your kid and trying to prove your parenting abilites. Worse is when we run into one of you at a place like Barnes&Noble with that train table. The poor kid can't play for 2 mintues before they are being harped. |
I am confused. Can only 1 kid play at the Barnes and Noble train table? And again, why do you seem to take such entitlement to public toys, playgrounds, and things in stores? They do not belong to you. I would encourage you to read and reread that last sentence. I thought the whole point of that stuff was so that kidS could play - together. They like it. But maybe it's better to just get a swingset and train table of your own so you can know it's yours and no one else can touch it or ask to play with it or even look at your kid while he/she is playing with it or be within "hovering" distance of either of you. Good Lord, you are scary. |
Hahahaha! I KNEW mean mother would be back with something nasty.
You have noooooooooooo idea how I parent. You are just pissed that I have you pegged. Re the Britax marketing though, I am confused - word of mouth would seem to be the best kind of marketing because it means people like it enough to talk about it. Whats so wrong with that? That would seem to say alot about the product. I bought one because nearly everyone I spoke to (and the research I did online and on this site) said it was great, safe, easy to use, comfortable, etc. To me, the extra money was worth those things for a product that I would use for several years. For my second seat though, we bought a Vogage because I understand it is the same but cheaper. If I had known that beforehand, we would have bought two of those. Flame away ![]() |
Moms who go to JW Tumbles or the like and ignore their 2 year olds so that they can catch up with their friends. Al the while, their child is hitting, throwing, pushing, etc. But I guess the silver lining is that my DS learns to push back! |
It is! |

Do these $800 strollers have airbags? |
I can't stand moms who make a point to distinguish between preschool and daycare. Its so annoying as if one program which offers a few more hours than another all of sudden becomes custodial care or the pre-K kids in a place with all day schedules somehow give less pre-K education. Every mom should pick the place that they like the best and stop trying to label all the others. |
And someone to push them while making me cocktails and giving me weekly pedicures? |
I second that!!! Sick if you ask me!! |
Well at least in our case "preschool" is less than 3 hours, 2 mornings a week, and it's a co-op so often I'm there too. I probably wouldn't consider this daycare. |
