The DC Council Committee of the Whole announced a Public Oversight Roundtable on the Re-Opening District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) and District of Columbia Public Charter Schools (DCPCS) for School Year 2021-2022

The number of public witnesses will be limited to 50 individuals. Sign-up NOW. We hope to flood the hearing with Educator Voices. Those who wish to testify must register at http://www.ChairmanMendelson.com/testify by the close of business on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.

The WTU will be sending out further information and updates on our negotiations with DCPS on the return to school in the coming days.

Yes. Before you all flip the teachers testifying will be saying they want mandatory masks for all

I am all for this! Even though both my kids are vaccinated. I feel like this will reduce the need to close down the entire school if one kid test positive.

Is that the policy now? Entire school closes if one kid tests positive? I don’t think so.

Summer Institute at Banneker shut down due to a covid case. They require masks as well.

who is going to testify about getting rid of outdoor masks? can teachers stop being so freakin’ selfish for a second?

Who is talking about outdoor masks? And let’s be honest by October mandatory masks in all indoor establishments will be back. Just look at LA

right, who is talking about outdoor masks? my point exactly. if the teachers weren’t selfish they would advocate to get rid out outdoor masks. but generally outdoor masks only impact kids and non-WTU staff who monitor recess/aftercare.

I’m a teacher and I have recess duty everyday. Not sure what school your kids go to that teachers don’t have recess duty. Anyway, I don’t give a flip about outdoor masks. You wanna fight this fight…go for it. I don’t care enough to do it.

right, you don’t care about it. selfish.

I guess you can call me selfish if it makes you feel better. Why don’t you advocate for it? Why would I advocate for something I don’t care about?

Because you are asking for our support on things you do care about and we don't have a voice on this issue. It's in your own self-interest.

How many classrooms/pods/cohorts were in session? How many had the positive case interacted with?

Since DCPS has relaxed COVID testing, we’ll never get the full picture.

You must have me confused with another teacher poster here. I do not expect parents to ever advocate for anything that I want. I don’t ask parents to support anything beyond their child’s education. That’s not the parents job.

Nope. I make enough money for the hours and days that I work. Not every teacher is complaining about pay etc.

This is a DCPS policy.

That is a pre-vaccination policy. I don't believe DCPS has updated its policies for this school year. Still waiting for DOH to issue new guidance following the CDC new guidance.

Actually how would it work if there are different quarantine rules for the vaccinated and unvaccinated? One would have to disclose vaccination status, but that brings privacy concerns. So why not just lie if one is unvaccinated? Since we won't be able to know who is vaccinated or not, and given that some people will lie about being vaccinated, that means
erring on the side of safety and making everyone quarantine.

No privacy concerns you must turn in a medical form that includes all your vaccines to attend public school in DC. Medical professionals can note if the student has had a covid vaccine as well. Alternatively students could.provide a copy of their vaccine card. There is NO privacy issue when you already MUST legally turn in such documents to attend school.
The problem is many school have not followed the rules of enforcement in the passed.
I suppose kids would notice who is learning at home and who is not but that is just how it is. Vaccinated kids shouldn't be sent home unless the CDC says the need to be. Which I suppose could be the case with all the idiots out there helping things like Delta and other mutations along.

+1

NP who is a teacher. I am well compensated and never ask parents to advocate for me. I am a professional adult. I think asking parents to help conditions at my job would be awkward and inappropriate.

There shouldn't be unvaccinated teachers. If they are they need weekly testing.
Show up to work or lose your job.

If HS have to follow the quarantine rules for exposure than one positive case won’t shut down the whole school but could potentially cause over a hundred kids to have to stay home.

Why do you think you make that much? DC teacher's salaries are way above the norm. It's the highest starting salary in the country. Who do you think allowed that to happen?
