Do people really always tip 10-20% on carry out orders? Still?

Are you handing out cash to your local grocery store and retail workers as well?

My local grocery store workers are unionized and paid pretty well. I shop at Target and they start at $15 per hour. It's not necessary.

And let me guess... you don't eat McDonald's or Chik-fil-A?

Do you really not understand the difference?

Bumping this old thread to see what folks are doing currently.
I confess I tip on carryout mostly in hopes the workers won't spit in my food for being cheap.

You?

What do you mean you are grateful for their help? Are they working for free? Are you not grateful for the help of school teachers, mailman, grocery shelver, bookstore clerk, security guard, museum ticketer…? Should we be tipping every single person we interact with??

I really struggle. Sometimes I tip 10% out of guilt but the employees pocket most of non cash tips so all we are doing is just voluntarily making everything 10-20% more expensive. The system is pathetic.

^^ meant to type the employERS pocket most of non cash tips.

I tio 10% at a table service restaurant because I am taking their time to pack it up etc. It tio a dollar or two at a take out fast casual place but sometimes I skip it.

I just tip 20% everywhere and definitely anywhere I’m prompted because I’m rich and it seems like the least I can do.

Isn’t everyone on DCUM rich, yet no one wants to tip low wage service workers handling their food.
