I want the places I enjoy getting food from to stay open, as I'm a creature of habit and am sad when a favorite place goes out of business. Honestly, I can afford it and it's my money to do what I want with. I so agree with others that tipping can reduce the chance of people messing with my food. I also had a bad experience when I was forced to undertip decades ago on a lengthy cab ride because I was short on cash. It felt awful and ever since have been trying to make up for it. I know it sounds crazy but I honestly think that it's given me good karma as I now am well off and lucky enough to be able to overtip, so I keep paying it forward.
It’s a sad state of affairs when people feel they have to tip so the restaurant staff won’t sabotage their food. Do the kind of people who would do that deserve your extra money? If you don’t trust a place, stop going there.
