Perfume is Unfashionable and Inconsiderate

This -- how many people are in offices right now?

Also, WFH has made me so much more into perfume. I've tried out a bunch of different scents and gotten sampler pack so I can play around. It's reminded me of how much pleasure good perfume brings me. I wear it for myself. Not a lot, but I like carrying a scent with me all day that makes me feel pretty or relaxed or energized or whatever. I'm probably not going back to an office post-Covid, but I'm definitely going to be wearing perfume daily, whereas I didn't before. The last year has been hard in so many ways. Perfume is fun and pleasant. I'm happy to embrace it.

Are you me? That's exactly what I've been doing during quarantine, ordering and trying sample packs, and I've discovered a bunch of wonderful scents that I didn't know existed!! OP, too bad, so bad, we'll be wearing our perfumes as we see fit.

I guess I can't. What is a metal-scent? Copper? Aluminum?

There is a metallic undertone to most commercial perfumes, almost like a vague scent of iron.

I have an excellent sense of smell and I smell things that my husband can't, so maybe I am more sensitive.

It’s not metal. Your nose may be sensitive, but it’s way off base (pun totally intended). There are several mainstream perfumes with really nasty base notes, but metal is a supremely uncommon note. The last one I can think of is Estée Lauder Dazzling Silver, which Turin and Sanchez says had a “sucked spoon quality” from the helionol. I had it, I loved it, it’s been discontinued for about 10 years. Metal is not a common note.
- I also have a very sensitive nose

I can also think of Metal by Paco Rabanne - it was such a wonderful fragrance - but that was discontinued in early 00's, if not earlier.

Shrug. I don't know what else to tell you. There is an artificial metallic scent I detect with most (but not all) perfumes. It's noticeable to me. Maybe it is the underlying chemicals, I don't know. But I smell it for sure.

I know you think your amazing sense of smell is detecting a metallic smell, but you really should get a full medical workup. Smelling a metallic scent can be indicative of a serious health issue. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/322698

I have asthma and have trouble with fragrances. This is very, very common now. At this point anyone who is wearing perfume is being willfully inconsiderate to others around them. And for those of you who think it bothers no one, maybe people are scared to tell you. I had a lovely coworker who sat on another floor that I purposely avoided seeing in person because of her perfume. I don’t think she ever realized.

Oh FFS, is there nothing you people won’t do to ruin every aspect of others lives? Got it, we’ll just do as you wish. F off. Seriously. Sick of you babies.

I'm the PP and I suspect what I am smelling is not actual metal but that's the best I can describe it. It smells .. artificial, for lack of a better word. Maybe it is the interaction of one of the ketones. Idk. But I smell it for sure in most perfume.

I'd worry if I smelled it in anything other than perfume. Look, you seem oddly hostile to the idea that the perfumes you splash on yourself have a strange scent. Not my problem. I am not telling you not to wear them, I am saying they smell weird. Obviously your nose isn't sensitive enough to tell, so enjoy whatever you want to slather yourself with.

Weird that you think I’m “oddly hostile” when this is my first post. You however are an absolute psycho.

There are at least two of us to whom you’re talking, and I don’t wear mainstream perfumes. They do have an odd “hissy” note, but it’s not metallic. It’s probably a base, which is a cheapo/shortcut way of making frags. I think it’s pink pepper and honest to god it feels like it’s in 95% of perfumes today.

Man here. Love good perfume. Less enamored with entitled brats who think the entire world should tiptoe around their particular physical or emotional defect. Deal with it.

Look, it smells weird and pretty gross to some of us. Not everyone thinks your perfume smells good. You seem very upset to learn that given how you are lashing out. I don't really care. I am just saying there is an unpleasant scent that is in 95% or so of perfumes. Since you don't smell it, why do you care that other people can? Why do you need all of us to pretend we think it smells good?

Maybe that is what it is. Idk. I just know I can smell it and I do not like it.

NP. You clearly care. A lot.

You are weird.

Crazy, you are the only one lashing out and upset. Multiple people are telling you that. I also don’t wear perfume so your continued false claims are wildly entertaining. 😁You really do need to be seen by a doctor, but seems like a psychiatrist is more appropriate.
