wait list movement

DD just got accepted from the waitlist at Georgia tech.

Dartmouth sent an email today that its Class of 2025 is full. Waitlist movement could still happen, though, if spots open up.

Next year’s probably will too, what with all the international students applying again.

Competing with the normal mix of applicants (i.e., including international students) is not "getting the shaft." It is life.

It was very wishy washy.
Was it saying they’re not going to waitlist? We read it and are still confused.

I believe what was meant is that there will be even *more* international students than normal due to the pause last year.

If they know this is the case, they should just cut the cord. It's cruel to let the kids think they have a chance.

+1.

Agree. It’s understandable that schools are protecting yield rates and covering their asses financially and all the other things they have to do to form a well rounded class but wow - they really leave the kids out on a limb. It would be so helpful to them to have some indication of how things are looking beyond just radio silence or not even replying to kids’ inquiries or emails! Fingers crossed for good outcomes!

It means that their yield came in at or above what they projected. Those commits could still melt away due to accepting a waitlist spot elsewhere or personal reasons or visa snafus etc

It’s in poor taste and just underscores how it’s all just about money. If they truly cared about the kids they wouldn’t torture them like this.

I couldn't tell whether that poster was being serious or not (making fun of the current seniors for complaining about their circumstances). Colleges plan for each class to be x% international, so international students are competing only against international students for those spots and domestic students are competing only against domestic students for the domestic spots. They're in separate piles. More international applicants doesn't affect how many domestic applicants are accepted.

I think last year Dartmouth didn't start pulling from the waitlist until July, and the few years before that they didn't accept anyone off the waitlist at all, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Your kids should just assume if they're on a waitlist that they're not getting in. Makes life easier. So few students are accepted off WLs on normal years, but especially this year. Just have4 them enjoy the end of their senior year.

Easier said than done. It’s not us who is telling DC to keep hope alive. Would be thrilled if they would just enjoy the end of this lame senior year. But you try telling that to a teen who wants nothing more than to get into X college after being locked up tor a year.

I understand it. It must feel like nothing is going right.
