Handmaid’s Tale season 4

She also got more than 100, including 80+ children, to safety. And she singlehandedly saved Janine's life when she was to be stoned. The only death I really disliked her for was the poor Martha who told her where to find Hannah. But even that one wouldn't have happened if her walking partner hadn't ratted her out.

Was that supposed to be milk in the train tank? These new people seem like creepy, bad news, but Rita is giving me life.

Yeah the fact that they're not affiliated with Mayday indicates they're sketchy. The leader is disgusting.

So happy Rita is getting more air time. I was disturbed seeing her be nice to Serena, but then glad she turned it around. I remember she had a son who died in the war, but we don't know which side he fought for.

"Hey, can't believe there are sex slaves in America. Btw, I require one of you to service me." WTAF.

He actually didn't require it - and told June she could say no. He's slimy and nasty but I don't think he "required" it despite saying he would.

Um, the choice was sex or being cast out with no food/clothing/shelter.

Yes, I think an ultimatum like that can be considered "forcing." He just wanted her to pretend to like it(!)

That’s what we call victim blaming.

I wish we got to see even more of Janine’s backstory because I love her, but I’m glad they at least showed something finally. I’ll be heartbroken if she dies. She’s my favorite character. The episode overall, though, was a little meh. I’m really hoping the Waterfords just rip each other to shreds in court and rot in jail.

There was a snippet in one of the season trailers where the Waterfords walk outside of a building together, looking happy in their Gilead finery (with Serena’s baby bump). I don’t know whether they are supposed to be free in that scene, or they are making some kind of one-off diplomatic related appearance or what.

I think the show is straining very hard to keep these two relevant. Old news. Move on.

She awkwardly tried to sex him on her couch, he awkwardly turned her down because it was too soon (I believe he was a widow), she angrily turned in the young mother she had befriended to child services and they took the boy away, and the almost-boyfriend looked on in horror at what she had done. The end. I do wonder whatever happened to him. I don’t think he’d ever survive Gilead or turn collaborator, so I bet he’s either a refugee or dead.

Thanks - I’m the one who asked the question. I forgot how things ended with the boyfriend and the young mother!

For some reason though I also remember that she was accused of having harmed a child and that started her spin out of control.

Oh shoot, I don’t remember this. Do we know how he died?

June got her hands on his file, which said he died in a car crash not long after the founding of Gilead. June thought Janine was too fragile to handle the truth, so lied. That made this ep's flashback extra heartbreaking.

Of course Janine does have a child now stuck in Gilead, also heartbreaking. I'm going to be so peeved if this lady does not get a happy ending.

I thought that baby was rescued!

I though she just had scarring and maybe a lost tube. A friend was stabbed in the same area and had a decade of infertility before a surprise baby at 43. Serena will probably have complications. My friend had weekly scans because of the scar tissue and was on bed rest for 5 or 6 months.

This is not true. We have no idea about the food but the clothes part is def wrong. We know that bc June had already changed and let her hair down before Janine returned to talk to her. Since she got new clothes, I assume she’d have had some food. Clearly June was thinking she’d had to be moving on and the guy is a sleeper but I don’t think you can say she wasn’t getting food or clothes without sex. She got clothes and I assume likely food since she got clothes.

Was she? Does anyone know? My guess is no, because I'd think Janine would go on about it if that were the case.

The guy explicitly said either one of them "stays with him" or they had to leave. That was most definitely an ultimatum.
