Do you think people would still be willing to pay? Wouldn’t this greatly reduce the hours available? How would pools be staffed if high schoolers are still busy with school and homework?

Summer 2020 actually started on 3/15 in FCPS.

I was a NP that explained summer was actually 12 weeks (someone earlier had said 8 weeks). Not sure why you hope my kid was failing in your class? Just to be clear, my child is in AAP and makes just about straight 4s. We absolutely love our summer breaks and pool time. I supplement all summer. We don’t need or want year round school.

High School students would work after school just like they do at the beginning and end of the pool being open. And yes, people will still pay. I doubt that most families are using the pool as much as some here think. Our pool sells a pass for August only because so few members use it in August, Probably due to travel. So now it would be limited use because of school and Fewer hours open, because of school.

And I am far more concerned about my childs education then using the pool.

And when it comes to figuring out what needs to happen in education to help address any fallout of what the pandemic and our country’s non response causes kids to go through, the AAP summer travel and pool moms are not going to be the ones whose voices matter the most. As we’ve been saying all along, kids like yours are going to be fine no matter what. Any school scheduling changes will be made with the more vulnerable kids who did not fare as well in this scenario as kids like yours .... you know, all the ones these white moms keep using as leverage to try to get school buildings to open now for their kids who are doing perfectly fine.

Summer break of 2020 for FCPS was 12 weeks. School was out on June 12, 2020 and resumed on September 8, 2020. That’s 12 weeks and that wasn’t even the entire summer season. That’s what I mean when I said summer was 12 weeks. No one here is referring to “summer” as the entire season. We are talking about summer breaks for kids.
