I would love to have travel opportunities that are 1. Not in the heat of summer 2. Not over winter break (we celebrate Xmas as a religious holiday, so that’s not a great travel time for us) and 3. Not just spring break, when the prices of everything spikes.
Anything else honey? Maybe a side of fries with it?
The point of the original post is that year round school will provide travel opportunities when it is not stupid hot, like July and August, not around religious holidays, and at off peak travel times. Breaks will be at the end of each quarter, which is different around the country. The two weeks off at the end of the first quarter should be nice weather for travel to places that can be silly hot and probably less busy because many schools will still be in session. The end of the second and third quarter would not be at Christmas or Easter time so travel prices would be less expensive and their would be different options, like ski vacations when there is more snow in January/February. Overall travel costs would be less expensive, because breaks would be at a different time then most of the countries and less likely in peak times. There would still be camp options for kids, just like the Winter and Spring break camps that operate every year. Summer would be around 6 week break, plenty of time for overnight camps, travel, and time at the pool. Pools will do just fine, they would adjust their hours so that they were open after school, just like they do now at the beginning and end of the season. Swim practice might be after school but that is no different then any sport practice during the school year. Once the year is over, practices can move to the morning. Kids would retain more information and there would be a lot less time spent reviewing material at the beginning of the year.
Do you think people would still be willing to pay? Wouldn’t this greatly reduce the hours available? How would pools be staffed if high schoolers are still busy with school and homework?
High School students would work after school just like they do at the beginning and end of the pool being open. And yes, people will still pay. I doubt that most families are using the pool as much as some here think. Our pool sells a pass for August only because so few members use it in August, Probably due to travel. So now it would be limited use because of school and Fewer hours open, because of school. And I am far more concerned about my childs education then using the pool.
