You'l think twice about going on an online date afterwards.

Yes. That was the first series and where the concept of Dirty John came from (it’s the name of a podcast about Meehan and Newall). Thank god for her kids. I cannot imagine the trauma that the daughter who took him out feels.

Thank you for telling me this! For some reason I saw the Betty Broderick one first and then this aired right after. I was hooked.

You're right; it must have been so traumatic for the daughter. I read that Debra Newell is dating once again but had the guy checked out first!

What was strange was that the oldest daughters didn't actually take in the younger two brothers. They had to shuttle between relatives.

They were still quite young when their parents died, 20ish I think, and probably not yet capable of taking on that responsibility. Especially since they were dealing with trauma themselves. At some point I believe Danny did go to live with the eldest, Kim.

Considering the trauma they endured, they seem to have turned out well and are close knit. Funny that all seven grandkids are girls.

Not exaggerated based on several sources, including one of the daughters. They used to refer to her as "Fat" and "the Beast." Betty testified she received demeaning newspaper clippings in the mail suggesting diet pills and wrinkle creams, and a clipping of Dan and Linda at a function with "Eat your heart out, b*tch" scrawled on it. The gaslighting during the lengthy affair and financial abuse are indisputable.

Yes PP is correct, the boys went to Colorado to live with Dan’s brothers ex wife for quite awhile. The youngest gave an Oprah interview about it in the 90s.

What is the evidence that she was bipolar?

I don't think she was bipolar but had borderline personality disorder with narcissistic traits.

A normal person would have stopped calling and leaving vile messages and breaking and entering their ex's home. Betty got what she deserved.

Dan and Linda even more so.

+1 Extreme fear and anger over abandonment, plus inability to handle significant blows to the ego and loss of control. Textbook.

I think she may have even said that she could finally sleep when they were no longer in her head. So sad.

They senselessly tormented her, just disgusting human beings completely lacking in empathy. Unsurprising she had no empathy for them.

Yes. Hard to watch though. I could only get through about half then skipped to the end. Amanda Peet gives a great performance but watching someone unravel so completely was painful.

I would be so pissed if anyone drove a car into my house. Cannot believe the support for BB.

I think most of us don’t support any of them.

Anyone would be furious. Did you read the emotional and financial abuse detailed on this thread that led up to that?

I have sympathy for Betty's appalling treatment but do think all three were narcissists and awful human beings. Together they put those kids through absolute hell. In the end, I can't condone murder and do believe she belongs in jail. Even if I sympathize, she is not rehabilitated, period.

Am I misremembering, but wasn’t it her house, too? Like Dan tricked her into moving out of their joint marital home into a temporary house while their primary house was being renovated or something, filed, and then moved into the house that was theirs with his new wife? Or was it that he tricked her into moving out, sold their old home, and bought a new one? And then he had her committed.

It was only Dan’s house, after she moved into the fixer upper in La Jolla.
