The Eye Candy Thread

EyeCandyOP wrote:Friends, I have to apologize for my subway tile comment the other day. I love subway tiles, but was just tired of seeing them as the only wall material in the kid-friendly bathrooms.

I have subway tile in home and it looks great. I'm sorry if I bummed anyone out for the negative comment.

This is the bathroom requestor. Thank you for those pictures. Actually, we are also tired of seeing subway tiles everywhere are are specifically NOT going to do subway tiles in the shower. I hate grout, so we are looking at 12x24 tiles both for the floor and the tub surround.

Our vanity is dark (the tub, toilet, and sinks are/will be white) but the pictures you posted were interesting. Thanks again!

I'm back! Here are a few ideas for formal-ish dining rooms that are open to a kitchen.

These next two are showing both sides of the space.

Working on inspiration for homes with dark trim, but came across this for the person with terra cotta kitchen tile!

From the 2017 DC Design House (the large home in Potomac). Designer is Kelley Proxmire.

Total coincidence...another DC Design House, this time from 2015 (the new build that was in McLean, for those who remember) and by Michael Hampton.

I’m loving plaster fireplaces these days.

We need to update a kitchen, possibly for us but probably for re-sale in the just under $1.5M range. Realtor says there was no need to paint or replace the existing (beautiful) medium cherry cabs a la 2010. So, cherry cabs, light hardwood floors, stainless appliances & chimney hood/exhaust. What say you for countertops and backsplash?
Love this thread. Thanks!

Google brought me to this pic in this thread in search of the just right backsplash. Can anyone help me identify what backsplash is shown in this pic? Remarkably, I've googled tons and been to several tile stores but can't seem to find what I see here or really just a warm warm white tile with a hint of interest (but I really want our quartzite and cabinets to be the star).

It looks like glass subway tile to me - something like this: https://www.wayfair.com/home-improvement/pdp/ws-tiles-premium-4-x-12-glass-subway-tile-wsti1005.html?piid=35927839

^^as point of reference, what size are the tiles in the backsplash pic above? Are there any backsplash tile size “rules” I should be thinking about? Thanks!

They look like 2x6 subway tiles. I don't think they're glass because of how they look where the light shines on them.

Here's another image of the same space. You can see the tile a little better.

I'd love to see interesting interior doors. Like a bookshelf that also doubles as a door, or a closet door that looks like an armoire.

I'm going to skip the super designer-y bars and wine rooms, assuming you want family space.

This is from a designer show house in Denver

By the way, there was this guy on HGTV back in the day named Scott McGilvray (he still has a show on HGTV Canada) where he converted basements into apartments so owners could make money off their properties. My take away was that he used light colors, smaller-scale furniture, and a TON of lighting - ceiling, task, lamp, etc.

Just coming back to say thank you! This is great!

I know lighting is everything but I’m always amazed. The earlier, more interior pic, the tiles looked beige-ish to me. This picture (without the cherry cabs overhead) look clear/gray. But I’m taking the first pic with me when I go to the tile store tomorrow, so thank you eye candy op!

But you could keep your classic doors and paint them!

And if you have the budget for something really special...

I was going to skip barn doors, but couldn't resist. This is different.
