New Jersey wasn't a sunny beach when Edison Electric and IBM set up shop in the 1870s or 1920s either. |

Four out of the five closest neighbors to my house are Doctors in MoCo. In case you dont know Bethesda is the place to life if you are a doctor.
I also have several Diplomats on my blocks. A few international business men and scientists and engineers. Of all kids friends parents and neighbors only two work in VA and both at Freddie Mac. And only one works in DC. Most of us live and work in MoCo. |
So business owner, what's it to you? Why must you go out of your way to attempt to "prove" that VA is so much better than MD? Do you have nothing else better to do? Good grief. |
| I feel surrounded by Phd NIST Scientists in Rockville. |

Could we PLEASE quit this annoying and ridiculous pissing match between suburban Md and NoVa? Compared with most of the country, both of these regions offer a superior quality of life. Each state has its unique strengths. Each state has its challenges. Neither is perfect.
Many of these posts sound like they're coming from spoiled brats in a schoolyard. We're better than that...I hope? Someone said it earlier. We're more alike than different. |
why, buying a house is a long term investment of 10 years+ usually. So it makes perfect sense to compare areas, especially if they are close by. DC, bethesda and fairfax county are all within 10-20 miles of each other. The quality of life is significantly effected by things like commute time, schools and yes home appreciation. |
I agree. If the appreciation differences were smaller then people could argue, boost and make whatever irrational arguments they want as to why one is better than the other. If you are looking at a difference though of netting an 800K profit vs losing 50K when you go to sell years later then it becomes a whole different ballgame. I guarantee you that if any of the silly MoCo boosters had the opportunity to go back in time and choose moving to NOVA and making 800K vs moving to MOCO and losing 50K, they all would take the 800K profit move to NOVA. This is only going to get worse. Prices in Montgomery County are softer in 2019 than 2018. The people who bought high in Montgomery County in 2018 will be crying in several years just like the people who bought high in Montgomery County around 2005/2006. NOVA residents will keep laughing their way to the bank. |
There's a difference between having an adult civilized conversation that is based on factual information rather than petty bickering over which area "you think" is richer and smarter and which area sucks and has the most number of low level workers. This conversation has become the latter. You all sound like annoying middle schoolers fighting over who is more popular. Did you all have some self esteem issues growing up? Or maybe even now? |
I also looked at how diverse the city is, down to the neighborhood. As a minority with biracial children, that's important to me. There are certain parts of the DC area that have more racial diversity than others. |
Yes, yes, you are right. Do you feel better? |
what makes you think folks in MoCo dont own in VA? Most of my neighbors own multiple homes. I would invest in a home in VA under right conditions, but I would not move there. Just like I own an apt in NYC I rent out. What does living have to do with investing. Honestly, Section 8 welfare rat holes in Harlem and Brooklyn blows away anything you would ever get in VA if your bought 20 years ago. Right now I would rather buy a shit hole crack house in DC and rent to crack heads. By the way how come you VA folks dont take your General Lee cars and hop over Potomac every day to work. |

I would not buy in DC if racial diversity was my top concern. MoCo or NoVA all the way. |
