I guess my bad taste comes from being black. Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz, for example, are extremely pretty to me. But if you take away the blond hair Elin looks just like many women I have seen -- nothing special. It is a different beauty aesthetic. Face it: thinness and blondness are not worshipped in and of themselves by everyone in the world.

Not anthropology class -- plastic surgery to remove the epicanthal fold is quite common among the well-to-do in Northeast Asia, as anyone who has lived there and worked there knows. There are, of course, as many aesthetic preferences as there are individuals but these coexist alongside and yes, are often influenced by, larger cultural beauty norms. It is disingenous to pretend that these larger beauty norms are irrelevant or nonexistent. And for the record, there are plenty of thin blonde women whom I consider truly beautiful (Christie Brinkley, Claudia Schiffer, Heidi Klum). Elin Nordegren just happens to not be one of them because to me, she looks average, aside from her hair.
