I was at the meeting as well. They way I heard it, they are more OFFENDED at the fact that the ability, should they decide on a random Tuesday at 3pm to go to Maryland (where they don't already with any consistency) that this right will be taken away. The reason you cite above was listed in the presentation by those in opposition, not specifically those in affected neighborhoods, as "use it to get to work or have children in Private School in Maryland." What was actually voiced at the meeting seemed more along the lines of "You're taking my privilege away." You're correct that it seems counterintuitive. I do, however, wonder what the POSITIVE effect on the neighborhoods in that area will be, while the neighborhoods that will now become cutthroughs will obviously see negatives during the Pilot. As they clearly stated in the meeting, the most frustrating part of this - the Legion Bridge and the Maryland side - isn't going to see any change anytime soon. That we can all agree on. |
Then please explain to me why the traffic every morning on 495 from VA to MD is far far worse than the morning commute from MD into VA |
| VDOT has said several times that it will only go forward with the pilot program if there is clear support from a majority of area residents. There is no clear support for the pilot program; if anything, most of those who attend the public meetings or otherwise speak out oppose closing the ramp. For VDOT to proceed with the ramp closure would indicate that it wasn't being honest and is just doing the bidding of some well-connected people in the Langley area. Presumably, state officials have enough sense not to let that happen. |
If all you're going to do is accuse people of lying, then you'd better have something to back that up with. All of us describing what a huge problem this is have described what we see on a day to day basis. You have nothing, other than calling us liars. Which reflects extremely poorly on YOU. |
You must be joking. It's equally bad, both ways. |
So Va. drivers do drive into Md. and DC? This is so surprising. |
I find it obnoxious that VDOT would even consider something like this without doing a regional study and interviewing all those affected,l by the change not just the current situation. |
| Poor Langley parents. Both their private-school neighbors and the parents at other public schools think they are obnoxious. |
| Wasn't the situation exacerbated with the hot lanes coming in around there? I remember Langley parents fighting where the hot lanes would end and getting their way. Has this been studied? The situation along 495 near Georgetown Pike has gotten worse because of the hot lanes. |
So you think they should interview all of the MD drivers who benefit by using that ramp?
|
No, mainly it's just people like you on anonymous forums who think that. |
| Maryland drivers should be tolled |
Says the Langley fools who keep inviting ridicule by repeatedly starting threads about this unpopular idea on, you guessed it, an anonymous forum because their silly press releases otherwise get NO attention. |
There are more people in VA than Langley parents affected. |
THIS. Great idea. |
