Republicans want a Potemkin hearing for Christine Blasey Ford

NP. Like look at statistics of the number of actually substantiated claims. Watch the excellent movie “The Hunt” about a false allegation of child sex abuse. It’s not about a priest but it would help you grasp the concept that accusations can be wrong.

Yeah, it’s almost like there should be some system set up to... OH WAIT! She can PRESS CHARGES in Maryland if she cares to. A judicial confirmation is not a forum for reinventing criminal process.

No, she cannot press charges in Maryland. The statue of limitations has run out.

Well then TOUGH LUCK, COOKIE!

Let me guess, you're what, 12?

Also wrong. There's no statute of limitations for sexual assault in Maryland.

Please cite the statute. I could not find anything that said this.

Go ahead, keep dismissing men assaults of women. You will lose women’s votes forever.

Good thing I still have own vote then because I’m a woman.

Still losing the votes of women when you dismiss them like that, so great ahead. Your vote won’t make up for all the others you’ll lose.

Too many of us who were assaulted or have loved ones who were assaulted and we believe Dr Ford because we’ve been there and know women rarely make up something like this. Who wants to offer themselves up to extra harassment and death threats?

Plus a billion.

She is NOT making this up. She's an educated woman with a family and a successful career. Why, oh, why would she want to damage all that by making up a story like this? If she were insane, maybe, but there has been no evidence put forward that she's insane. Of course, if there were an FBI investigation, that could determine whether or not she showes signs of mental illness.

It's Kavanaugh who is lying, clearly. He has every motivation to lie, and she has none.

An FBI investigation could determine the facts.

The innocent do not fear an investigation. The guilty have much to lose.

You must be a political hack and kidding.

Are you stupid? You want a citation to a statute for the absence of a statute?

She should talk about why she came forward about this alleged incident now. She should explain why this alleged incident ought to disqualify Kavanaugh from the Supreme Court.

If the GOP will not investigate and insists on this fake "fact-finding" hearing, Ms. Ford should take the case to the American people. She should not take this extreme bullying on the part of old GOP men lying down, pardon the expression.

Yes, and she should take questions from the same public. Like: how do you not recall the year of this incident? Why don’t you know whose home you were in? Or how you got to the party? Or got home? Let the public, court of public opinion, know these answers.

I think those are reasonable questions, and I hope she will address them.

I also think a credible witness who is an expert in sexual assault (or more than one) should also appear on TV before the American public explaining why a person who was sexually assaulted when very young may have trouble remembering certain details. There are many such experts, so let's hear from them.

Who wants to do it? I’ll tell you who. People who are very invested in liberal political causes and have been assured by the Democratic Party that they’ll have whatever security they need. Anonymous death threats in the age of the internet are pretty de rigeur. Anita Hill’s life went back to normal so I doubt this (tenured?) professor is really risking much but temporary hysteria.

I'm pretty sure if you asked Anita Hill she would tell you her life NEVER went back to normal. She was harassed out of her job, she still faces harassment. She has suffered from her choice to accuse Clarence Thomas for decades.

But you didn't ask her, did you? You didn't read about her life since then, did you?

You are just posting lies.

Eugene Kanin at Purdue conducted a study that showed, according to police reports from one city, that 41% of rape claims were untrue, and a full 50% of claims at two universities were untrue. Other researchers have come up with similar numbers for false rape accusations: Gregory and Lees, 1996: 45%. Jordan, 2004: 41%. Chambers and Millar, 1983: 22.4%, Grace et al., 1992: 24%. McDowell and Hibler, 1985: 27%. Buckley, 1992: 25%. Washington Post, Virginia and Maryland, 1991: 25%. Even the lowest number is TEN TIMES the number of false rape allegations that feminists will admit to.

This is what you posted in the above link:

Abstract

With the cooperation of the police agency of a small metropolitan community, 45 consecutive, disposed, false rape allegations covering a 9 year period were studied. These false rape allegations constitute 41% the total forcible rape cases (n = 109) reported during this period. These false allegations appear to serve three major functions for the complainants: providing an alibi, seeking revenge, and obtaining sympathy and attention. False rape allegations are not the consequence of a gender-linked aberration, as frequently claimed, but reflect impulsive and desperate efforts to cope with personal and social stress situations.

Seriously, I’m so sick of this notion that women don’t lie or exaggerate these things. Women are complicated, flawed humans just like men. We lie. We exaggerate. We misremember. Grow up, people.

There is no question some women make false claims of rape.

So, if Ms. Ford is making such a claim, why not INVESTIGATE it???

The way the claims in the above referenced study were found to be false is they were INVESTIGATED!!!

So, again, I ask you, why does the GOP not want to INVESTIGATE Ms. Ford's allegation that Judge Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her? Why? What are they hiding?

If she's lying, that will come out. If she's lying, she deserves all the derision the GOP is spewing her way. If she's lying, she deserves to be prosecuted.

But if she's not lying, well....

+100. Some women, even high functioning women with fancy jobs, are just whacky. Personality disorders abound. And for all you weirdos calling for the FBI to get to the bottom of this, they’ll never be able to, you just want delay, which will backfire anyway because an open seat will bring out more Republicans to vote.

Attempted date rape. Meh.

Anonymous wrote:Then press charges. Congress is not obligated to “investigate” this allegation in the precise way you like. Neither is the FBI.

This is a completely nonsensical post.

Ms. Ford cannot press charges because the sexual assault happened too long ago. There IS a statute of limitations in Maryland for sexual assault.

Congress should ask the FBI to investigate to determine whether or not there is merit to Ms. Ford's very serious charge against Mr. Kavanaugh.

The kangaroo hearing proposed by the GOP is completely ludicrous. It will "prove" nothing. As OP said, it will "prove" the GOP let Ms. Ford speak, and then the GOP will vote Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court just because they can.

That's right, keep minimizing it. Get your Republican congressmen to come out with statements minimizing it, too. Show your true colors.
