See a theme? Do you really want me to continue? Is your head still stuck in the sand???

I’d like to see Trump and ICE really go after MS-13 then rather than spending all their time raiding nurseries (I’ve yet to see evidence that these places are specific hotbeds for MS-13 like a PP claimed). There just doesn’t seem to be a coherent strategy if reducing gang violence is a big goal. MS-13 has been around since the 80s so I’m not sure how much of the leadership is actually illegal anymore.

I agree Trump should go after MS-13, and he is. I also happen to think he should go after all illegal aliens, and he is.

Priority should be MS13, not fruit pickers.

NP. They have been targeting gangs like MS13 for years. From what relatives who work in LEO have told me, they used to just ignore everyone else though and now they don't. So it looks like they're specifically targeting non criminals now but it's more that they just aren't ignoring them more. MS13 is still the priority.

Also, they're everywhere when you know what to look for. I've seen MS13 gang signs near Ashburn high schools as well as in Reston.

It's about time. I'm frankly just amazed Illegal immigration enforcement is even a partisan issue. Democrats, you have lost your minds.

I'm amazed that Rs don't realize how Rs themselves are part of the problem.

More illegal immigrants come from visa over stays than illegal border crossings.
These folks who overstay their work visas aren't on the H1B high tech visas hired by the evil liberal tech companies. They are visa workers on H2As - used by farmers who vote mostly R, and H2Bs - used by Trump.

So, if you want to curtail illegal immigration in this country, then you need to go after those business owners, many who are R, and stop having the government issue H2As and H2Bs. However, Trump increased the H2B visas by another 15K in his first few months in office. I guarantee you that some of those folks will end up overstaying their work visas.

So now it is a problem?

So now you realize that Rs are part of the problem?

I think he means we caught a Liberal admitting that illegal immigration is a problem. Crazy it took 10 pages.

We know it is a problem but we also know Obama did a better job deporting violent offenders and helping Mexico with their economy so more people chose to move to Mexico than the other way around.

Also the D had a plan to stop people at the border south of Mexico than the fubar in Texas.

I think that immigration enforcement should be prioritizing violent criminals, including gangs (as it was under the previous administration). I don't know any liberals IRL who don't. I also think that we should listen to police officials who are telling us that heavy-handed immigration enforcement hampers efforts to fight violent crime, by driving victims and witnesses underground. I think we need to be smart and strategic, and deporting people who have been here for 20+ years, and have families and citizen children and deep community ties, or when they show up to the courthouse, or the many other atrocious examples of needless cruelty--it's inhumane, a waste of limited resources, and counterproductive.

Also, the border is hardly open and unsecured, and hasn't been for quite some time. And most liberals would not want it to be--the people who think we should straight-up have open borders are a minority.

It's misleading to say the prior administration "prioritized violent criminals, including gangs." The Obama administration obstructed the arrest and deportation of illegal aliens, even known gang members, so "prioritize" is not the right word. More like "limited to only violent criminals." And no, that's just insane.

You're also confusing federal immigration enforcement with local police officers, and you're implying that resources are so limited that ICE can only focus on one or the other. They're capable of handling MS-13 and your run of the mill illegal migrant worker. As they should.

Are they? Because clearly they werent under the Obama administration. I’m a moderate-conservative but think we need to be doubling down on MS-13 and other criminals and less time on showboat raids. Get to the heart of the organization. See the forest through the trees and focus on things that will make us all safer. My brother is a cop (also a conservative) in another city and is worried about the direction things are going. Immigrant communities are becoming less likely to reports crimes or work with the police. That is certainly counterproductive to taking out gangs.

My H is a homicide detective and things were improved under Obama administration. ICE worked directly with homicide and deportations were easy and orderly.

It's a mess now, witnesses are afraid to talk, ICE is too busy to assist the cops. ICE is bottom of the barrel when it comes to skilled law enforcement.

Visa overstays need to go. They should be more trackable. Obama's unaccompanied minors went to specific parent/guardian type individuals for release. The sheer volume in some areas is mind boggling. PG and FX got 1 high school and 2 middle schools worth or 2 high schools. Require more capacity [low class sizes, more staff plus …]

Federal help? Miniscule. I think PG gets more money from MD but FX is consistently shortchanged by VA. Obama didn't funnel money to support this. MS 13? The anchor babies? Along with birther tourism are a real slam from the intent [AA's and Native Americans].

Frankly the USA can count overstays but not those who never had legal presence. My political party has abandoned us.

I worry more about the Asians bringing in Fetanyl which kills more people in a week than MS-13 kills in a year.

Oh shit. It's the Asians bringing in Fentanyl? And to think I've been happy that my white kids go to a 70% Asian school because of the heavy emphasis on academics we see amongst the school community. So sneaky!

Right? I hope this article forces some changes. The students and teachers should not have to live with this.

This. Under Obama, victims and witnesses of violent crimes could be assured that their immigration status would not be investigated if they came forward. That has changed. So now victims and witnesses cannot cooperate with law enforcement, for fear of deportation right back to places utterly controlled by the same gang. Moreover, Trump's decision to end TPS for Salvadorans and others means that people who HAD legal status are now largely going to go underground. So, whereas three years ago a Salvadoran with TPS could safely approach police to cooperate in an investigation, that will no longer be the case.

Basically, the Obama administration had to make some choices - either prosecute MS-13 OR terrorize undocumented immigrants more broadly. They chose the first.

We need strong principals and administrators. There are so many kids who want to learn and have the capability to learn and be successful. We need to teach them. I know it's a movie, but I've worked under strong principals like this one; and it can make such a difference in the lives of those students who are trying to learn but are thwarted and put in fear by some of their classmates who spend their time trying to intimidate others.
