The vast majority of undocumented people who come to America are hard-working people seeking a better life. But (1) You sound very bigoted when you assume all MS-13 menbers are here illegally. The reality of MS-13 gang activity in DC/MOCO/NoVA is not up for debate. You can look up the statistics yourself if you choose. It doesn't mean the schools are bad. Most kids won't be affected at all by gang activity even when attending schools with a lot of gang members. However, just because you don't see it - just because your child isn't a target- doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And unfortunately, immigrant children, regardless of status, are targets. We need to fix this. It's been going on way too long. If you are a known gang member, you should be jailed if your are a citizen and immediately deported if you are not. If you are a minor and your family is here without documentation and you commit a violent crime, your entire family goes. It's harsh, but we have to protect all of our kids.

I have no idea why you wish to put your blinders on but be grateful that you're so far away from any of this that you're able to. My ds had a classmate who was murdered a few months ago by an MS-13 member who was also a student at his FCPS high school.

It doesn’t take a crack investigator to know that MS 13 is in our schools. These stories are about Fairfax County............

In affluent Fairfax County, Va., there were nearly 1,500 members, according to a 2015 police intelligence report. The report said there were about 2,000 members representing 80 different gangs in the county, however, 70 percent of the members were affiliated with MS-13, a police spokesperson told the Washington Post.

That means there were about 1,400 gang members affiliated with MS-13 in the county.

But things may be looking up.

According to an estimate given to the Post in June by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, there were roughly 900 to 1,100 MS-13 members in the greater Washington, D.C. region, of which Fairfax County makes up a large part.

A decade ago, the gang MS-13 was weakened to the point it was considered a lower priority for law enforcement in the D.C. metro region.

“We have seen a resurgence of MS-13 in the past four or five years,” said an FBI agent who spoke with WTOP on the condition of anonymity. A Fairfax County gang task force leader who has tracked MS-13 for more than 15 years says the gang is “much more violent” than ever.

Three murders associated with the gang have been committed in Virginia this year; two more were committed in Montgomery County, Maryland, last year. A total of 30 suspects believed to be connected with the gang have been arrested in these killings, including 10 juveniles, some of whom are being charged as adults. (Not all the victims were connected with MS-13.)

And 29 members of MS-13 were arrested recently in a nationwide gang crackdown, including 11 at a house in Falls Church in April.

The gang deals largely in drug-running, extortion (in the form of protection rackets) and sex trafficking, a number of sources in and out of law enforcement said.

They have developed a “more advanced and regulated structure than many other gangs in the United States,” the FBI agent told WTOP.
“The vast majority of their crimes are gang-on-gang,” inspired by the need to control territory and the crime-related revenue that comes from such control, Jay Lanham, a retired assistant chief of the Prince William County police and executive director of the Northern Virginia Gang Task Force, said.

In a 2009 report, the Northern Virginia task force said that three-quarters of members of all gangs in Northern Virginia said they’d joined by age 14, one-quarter by age 12. Lanham said that number has only gone up.
