Just asked our middle schooler about it and he wasn't aware of anyone doing it or talking about it. |
Our 8th grader hasn't heard of anyone doing it or seen anyone doing it either. |
| If your 8th grader is using the same bathrooms as high schoolers (as is the case in smaller privates), then they are fully aware of vaping. |
They probably aren’t. There are hundreds of schools in this area and people assume that everyone is doing the same thing at every school. Some of the private schools are large enough to be public schools and some things maybe are happening there. There is one angry poster on here that is anti-private schools and loves coming on here and saying all sorts of things are happening in private schools. My son is at a different private school that is small and he also says no one in his Middle school class is doing this for sure at school and as far as he knows no one in his grade is doing it outside of school. These kids all talk and some have big mouths and he would know for sure if someone was doing it. People used to say everyone was smoking pot but I wasn’t and none of my friends were either and we were in the party crowd but just kept it to alcohol. |
Juul pods are simple to hack - there are youtube videos that show you how. And THC oil is easy enough to get. My kids are in private MS and HS and Juuls are everywhere. |
NP. I’ve seen several different voices talking about moderate or pervasive vaping at their private schools. To try to pin this all on one mythical “angry public school parent” isn’t just moronic. The defensiveness and denial are downright dangerous for our kids because it stops so,e people from seeing it or trying to tackle it. |
it’s the “popular” crowd at our private that does all this! They are some the best students and athletes, btw. Never thought my kid would do it either but guess what we recently found? I throw away everything I find and I’m limiting his money but it feels like a losing battle. And they only have to be 18 to buy it themselves, it’s easy to get.

Ha!! At our school, the "best students" are not vaping...sorry. And perhaps that is true of your school, but you are in a fantasy land. My 4.3 GPA 36 ACT kid has never vaped...but he has watched all the "dumb athletes" doing it. |
There may be "hundreds of schools in this area" but there are not hundreds of private schools that people come on this forum to discuss. We are talking about aping in private schools and if you think your kid's school is immune you really are naive. I have had many conversation with parents and kids from multiple schools and can tell you that there are kids vaping at: Sidwell, STA, NCS, GDS, Maret, Potomac, Holton, Landon, SSSAS, Gonzaga, Holy Child, SR, Visi, G'town Prep, Norwood, St Pats, Sheridan, many of the parish K-8s and on and on. Your kid is not magically protected but you may be lucky (and dont think its anything but lucky) and your kid may be 1.) oblivious; 2.) uninterested; 3) turned-off; 4) smart enough to stay away. If you have a kid in any of those 4 categories, thank your lucky stars or fate or God but dont keep denying that no one at your kid's school is doing it. Its incredibly pervasive and, to some kids, persuasive. |
+1 But it is the girls that aren’t in the top 50% and definitely not involved in sports and school clubs. Just the ones whose parents are full pay and they are entitled nobodys with way too much time on their hands and want to look cool. Pretty sad and pathetic. |
Are you an adult? Or just a troll? |
Wow. Sad pathetic nobodies? I thought everyone at Holton cares about every girl at Holton. |
Kids not doing this at our school |
| Which school? |

I grew up going to private schools and in an area where there were many private schools and just about all kids went to private schools. I know all the stereotypes and cliques.
Whatever the issue is (sex, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, cheating) it is found at every school. Not every student is doing whatever the issue is. Actually, most do not. Not all jocks are doing the issue. Not all the nerds are not doing the issue. This is beginning to resemble a LSAT question
But the answer is that everyone is right! There are boring kids who don't do anything and are respectable. There are party kids who do everything and crash and burn. There are nerds who crash and burn and nerds who are anti-social freaks who wouldn't touch a can of beer for a million bucks. There are jocks who are dedicated to be healthy and fit and don't touch drugs. There are hot girls who go to all the parties and graduate without touching booze and are virgins. It's all over the place. |
