Vaping in class?

Poster: this is what happens when then you post in this spammy manner. It gets taken down. If you want to complain, do so in a calm manner.

Could someone speak specifically to the vaping situation in the MS at Sidwell? My DC says it does not occur, but is most likely just unaware.

So what are the risks? Addiction to nicotine plus others?

Addiction to nicotine - very high levels of nicotine unfortunately. It's super easy with the fruity flavors to just puff away without awareness of how many nicotine hits you are really taking. DS says kids are always saying they can/will quit but can't seem to ever quit. It's difficult.

Also as others have mentioned it's good for pot as well.

What? What a waste of tie and money. Landon has no more or less of it than any of the other privates. Its endemic.

does anyone know about dab pens? I understand they are used for using pot and are rampant too. So scary.

Yes, parents should be aware that you can vape marijuana.

I don’t think so. It’s called something else isn’t it?

I ask my kid these questions regularly and this is what I have learned. You can use a “hack” to fill the nicotine pods with THC oil. Yes, kids do this and the pot smell is minimal.

This is PP. To be clear, i am talking about hacking juul pods.

I am no expert on the topic, but I was at a get together with grown ups who were smoking an e-cig of marijuana, and you could definitely smell the pot smell when they exhaled. Maybe not as much as a traditional joint, but it definitely wasn't a clean, "air freshener" smell. It smelled like pot. Maybe there are other types of vaping THC oils that are lower-odor, but I have not heard of any no-pot-smell-at-all vaping MJ oils... Just FYI.

A lot of Holton girls vaping in upper school. At least that is what my 10th grader says. In the lounges and bathrooms. I think one girl was expelled a few days. That’s it. The administration turns a blind eye to it.

This is bigger than I realized. The head is aware as i spoke with them about it recently. I'm worried about high school being worse.

What school and or grade? I have not seen this in middle school or heard about it in middle school at our all boys school. I may be naïve but I cannot see kids in middle school doing this.

You are naive. My 8th grader says it's an issue at his private.

My kid is in the upper school at Sidwell. Says so.many.people vape and some are actually now trying to get “un-hooked.” The school just did a big assembly to raise awareness and my son said some of the bigger users were asking questions that suggested they want to quit. I’m sure there is a smaller cohort of middle schoolers testing it out too. It’s a huge problem everywhere. He’s never seen it happen in class but says lots of kids bring their chargers to school and plug them right in.

How in the world do teachers not see it or smell it? If they know it is happening, why not send a teacher in the bathroom in between periods here or there. Why not ask them to empty pockets if they come back to class smelling like fruit. It is such an obvious thing. I would hope private schools would have a little more say into this.

The entitled attitude is strong in private. Some kids think they don’t have to follow the rules and their parents back them up.
