US women's gymnastics...

Plus, Nassar - like many doctors - lorded his expertise over non-doctor adults. Doctors don't like to be challenged and predators have used this to their benefit.

Teach your children to challenge anyone who thinks he's a god.

And above all, stop the idolization... of anyone.

Every. Single. Parent must watch this.
And share with your children if age-appropriate.

This is powerful. These young women have more strength in their pinky finger than most men have in their entire body.

Why aren't some of the other criminals in this scandal getting charged?

Anyone?

USAG is run by a bunch of uneducated former athletes who themselves aren't very sophisticated or street smart.
These are people who let the Karolyis have the team over for mandatory training at their personal gym, all while Bela runs around with his rifles in front of the girls. I'm sure they could have found a more neutral ground to prep the kids for the Olympics.

They operated a pedophile camp so a known rapist could torture these young girls, sanctioned by The US Olympic Committee.

There hasn't really been a full investigation of MSU or USAG's involvement. The survivors are pushing for that and I hope it happens.

Has anyone seen the Kyle Stephens testimony on YouTube? Can you please post the link to it? Thank you.

+1 and other were convicted in the Penn State case so hopefully similar charges can be brought against those involved here.

Thank you. This is important to share with your high school students and discuss. What should they do if their friend feels sexually violated by someone?

Jordyn Wieber also gave a very powerful statement on Day 4 of sentencing. Linking here in case anyone wants to watch

This serial rapist lived near one girl when she was six.
She detailed how he would "slap his penis" in her face.

Parents MUST always be VIGILANT.

That alone tells you how widespread this abuse was. Totally disgusting. I doubt I would ever let my child participate in this sport.

Lady, their abuser was a DOCTOR. In several cases, he committed the abuse with the girl's mother IN THE SAME ROOM.

Do you seriously believe that steering your daughter toward fencing or martial arts will protect her? Those sports have doctors too.

Which fencing or martial arts governing organization has a children's training camp that does not allow the parents? Welcome to USA Gymnastics. You don't sound too bright, my friend.

You obviously don't know a lot about gymnastics if you think that letting your child get involved means she would be in a scenario like this. Most gymnastics is much more low-key, is taught by caring coaches and doesn't involve criminal doctors.

You avoided the question, you pervert.

Different poster, you idiot

Why can’t you just admit you’re a pervert? Gross.

Bumping this thread for the poster who is an abuse survivor.

Both men seem to me to be feared by the gymnasts they coach and Nassar was there to "save" them. I've only read a little about Geddert, but I've read many stories over the years about Bella Karolyi belittling gymnasts for their weight and forcing them to adhere to extremely strict diets, outbursts of rage and anger, incidents of physical violence and then physiological torment by doing things like completely ignoring a gymnast if he felt she wasn't performing correctly.

At 6 years old, I remember watching Mary Lou Retton compete in the Olympics and I also grew up idolizing Nadia. Bella Karolyi was the coach for both of these gymnasts, but I've never heard either one say anything negative about him. Is this some kind of sick loyalty thing or did he have favorites that he treated "decently"? Did he only prey on certain ones because from everything I've read it seemed like everything he did was done very much in the open and in front of other gymnasts as a way of creating fear, shame and intimidation. More and more, this just seems like such a bizarre and sick world.

My knowledge of gymnastics is rather limited, but even I know that Karolyi is a violent nutjob. I would never leave my child in his care. Chasing Olympic gold isn't a legit reason to abdicate parental responsibility of your child. It just makes you look greedy and irresponsible. And now we have proof that it was a reckless decision with heartbreaking consequences.

Why do you believe USA Gymnastics supported such a reckless and abusive environment for these children?

All those gold medals.

My enthusiasm for the next Olympics has diminished. Now I'll have to question if the kids were abused or assaulted in any way during their years of excruciating work.

No way should we believe Nassar is the only one. Just look how much it took to finally take him down. The US Olympic Committee authorities and coaches are obviously NOT protecting the kids from sexual predators. Where are the child protection advocates?
