It's been firmly established in many news articles that Obama's health secretary, Sebelius, always flew commercial, which is why Tom Price's behavior is so disgusting. |
Pp here. I agree with all that Price's behavior was appalling. I'm pi**ed! I just don't agree that it never happened under Obama as it probably wasn't so fervently reported. |
Sure, go ahead and find a case of something like this happening during Obama's time. I can't think of an egregious one that happened in his 8 years as President. It sounds like you can't think of one either. I can't think of something happening like this in GW Bush's 8 years as President either. In the meantime, Trump has been President for just 8 months and at least 4 of his Cabinet members are in trouble for taking junkets on private planes: Mnuchin, Zenke, Pruitt and our favorite Tom Price. They're following the grifter tone that's being set at the top. |
Well, I'll tell you one thing, if you were a lowly GS-grade HHS employee making that trip, you'd be flying economy on the commercial contract carrier multi-stop layover flights! |
I remember John Sununu in the GHW Bush administration getting in trouble for this. But that was over 25 years ago. |
The lowly GS staff of HHS should request private planes, citing the example set by their leader. |
Obama thought of nominating Senator Daschle as Secretary to HHS and didn't because Daschle had some messiness about unpaid taxes that he later corrected. He tried to keep his Cabinet clean. |
And there's more flights, this time overseas, and with the wife.
The White House approved the use of military aircraft for multi-national trips by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price to Africa and Europe this spring, and to Asia in the summer, at a cost of more than $500,000 to taxpayers. Price’s wife, Betty, accompanied him on the military flights, while other members of the secretary’s delegation flew commercially to Europe. The overseas trips bring the total cost to taxpayers of Price’s travels to more than $1 million since May, according to a POLITICO review. |

It was revealed today by politico. Most other news sources are just referencing his domestic junkets, not the international ones. |
In previous administrations they are least tried to demonstrate some ethics. No one is even trying at the moment. |
Ouch. From the Washington post this morning: "The optics here are terrible. Price took a $25,000 charter flight from Dulles to Philadelphia when a round-trip ticket would have cost $72."
Drain the swamp! |
Typo, that's a round trip train ticket. |
What wrong? Hiring the best people also means giving them the best. Am I right? |
