The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu

In the book, I think it was mainly based on age. If a handmaid didn't reproduced, she was killed off.

Even more strange is that Nicole Kidman plays opposite her in a different mini series.

Scientology explains how a crappy actress got her start. She was so horrible in the west wing; surely some scientologist casting director had a hand in it. Although she's improved somewhat as an actress, the huge theme in handmaid's tale is fighting against authoritarian rule and having control over one's own reproductive choices. It's absolutely disgusting that this complete hypocrite is the face of the series.

Oh, please.

The irony is that your eye roll,is why some are saying this show is so powerful right now. The story is about a society of people like yourself who ignored what was happening.

I loved the first three episodes. The beginning of the third with her description of how it happened was haunting.

Is there something going on that we should know about? Have reproductive rights been rolled back? Is abortion now illegal? Please enlighten us as to what we've been "ignoring." Thanks so much.

This aged well

Yup. The episodes that show the beginning of Gilead-- the transition from not believing it's happening to suddenly trying to flee in a panic are the most disturbing.

Abortion is not illegal in almost every state. Ready your state's laws, chicken littles.

Totally agree. I've been thinking about them more and more lately.

What are we thinking of the final season? I am not impressed so far. Thinking Serena will marry one of the commanders.

This is not the final season. It has been renewed for a sixth and final season.

If Serena is not married off, or lots of talk of it after a period of mourning or when the baby reaches a certain age, it will be most shark-jumping, unrealistic thing ever. Everyone in Gilead has a role. And a fertile woman's role is as a wife. Or if she commits a transgression, as a Handmaid. You don't just get a house and food and a Martha and all the things without the husband.

I thought the second episode of this season was really good. The first episode was a weird, terrible jumble - hated it. Almost all of it could have been covered in flashbacks. I feel like this season is going to be slow. The loss of Alexis Bledel is a blow. And honestly, the Handmaid portions are getting old. We get it - the Commanders are gross perverts. I think it would be refreshing to have a Commander that isn't, and that isn't Lawrence, for once. I predict Janine survives poisoning and becomes an Aunt.

The new season is terrible so far. Boring, slow, with never ending close-ups of unhinged, wild-eyed June.

Yup, that’s a pretty good description.

Think the 3rd episode of this season was one of the best of the series!
