When I read this a few weeks ago, I thought it was just sort of tacky (particularly b/c the NYT story contrasted Hunter's comments with those of a long-time Biden aide who was more concerned about Joe having time to relax). Now, in light of the news about Hunter burning through cash, this statement looks even worse.

Wow. Given what's come out in the last two days, that's a really remarkable thing for him to say.

(As if Hunter would be making big money if his last name wasn't Biden!)

the best families can have children with problems.

My 2 cousins with drug problems are prime examples. They grew up with love and warmth and none of the tragedy that this family dealt with (which included scary health episodes in the 80s for Joe).

Hunter apparently has problems. He's an adult. At this point, it is unfair to place any of the blame on Joe or Jill.

I'd be curious to know if the allegations in the recent divorce filing were known by others besides Kathleen and Hunter. IME, the preson with a substance abuse problem goes to great lengths to preserve the facade of being a nice guy, and the victim spouse is too embarrassed, too worried about favorable custody/support terms, too concerned about the children knowing, and too worried about a big fight that they are willing to keep quiet about the gory details behind the divorce. Makes me wonder if Hallie and the Bidens knew the real reasons for the divorce.

In that light it's crazy that Hunter Biden didn't mediate a divorce settlement on terms favorable to Kathleen in the past year. If he had done so, likely this would not have come out with all these details.

This bears repeating. Not the parents' fault folks, especially when the parents appear to have done the best job they could, and to have provided plenty of love and support. A grown man is responsible for himself. The grandparents can invest their love and support in the next generation now.

Um, if he and Kathleen are separated and Hunter is now being seen in public with Hallie as a couple - this was going to come out, wasn't it?

I haven't heard any gory details aside from the detail of Hunter and Hallie being a couple...not sure how or why they would want to continue keeping that a secret. That cat was going to come out of the bag at some point.
