Why do voters in the red states think Trump is going to solve all of their problems? They already have Republican mayors, governors, state legislatures, congressmen and senators and yet, things are still bad for them. If they really want change, why not enact it on the local level? Why do they think Trump will change anything? I see no explanation for it beyond being brainwashed by Fox News and the Alt Right and not having the brain power to really think about their lot.

Garrison Keillor has said it best:

We liberal elitists are now completely in the clear. The government is in Republican hands. Let them deal with him. Democrats can spend four years raising heirloom tomatoes, meditating, reading Jane Austen, traveling around the country, tasting artisan beers, and let the Republicans build the wall and carry on the trade war with China and deport the undocumented and deal with opioids and we Democrats can go for a long brisk walk and smell the roses.

I will enjoy my tax cuts under Trump and if none of those people are better off in 4 years. Not my problem.

Yeah, because working class white people are all about "guns and heroin." Idiot! Maybe you are the one who is uneducated.

NP. Well to be fair, that poster should have included "bibles".

And here is another reason why Trump won. A large segment of the population are Christians who love God and Country. Muslims also revere the bible as well as the Koran so you insult them too. Only an utter fool would insult someone's religion and expect that person to vote for their party.

Keep on insulting them, calling them stupid, that they don't believe your philosophy-touted-as-science nonsense. You just keep on with that track and see how much more political power you lose. In the past, politicians wisely shut their mouths and did not insult people's religion but this election cycle, perhaps emboldened by polls (and we know how reliable those are now) that stated Americans are turning atheist at a fast rate, the ungodly decided to show their butts and they got spanked.

Why do you think stating the obvious is an insult. Just stating a fact that you in your around about way agreed that middle America white folks love their bibles. How is that not true, as you yourself agreed and how is a fact an insult?

The fact you think people who worship God and read the bible are stupid, and you are firmly convinced of this, says that there is no common ground between us. You have an iron kettle over your head that only allows you to think what you think is true and that is that and nothing will change it. You don't get. You never will. It is impossible for us to reason together, hence, people like you must be defeated and stripped of all power and influence in our country. If you are university professor, parents will do what I have done and pre-warn them what they are going to try and teach: people who believe in God are backwards, living in the Dark Ages. I know it, I have been to college and have gone through it. It made me stronger.

NP here. I'm a moderate Christian and I totally disagree with you. In my experience, it's the evangelical movement that has blinders on, that repudiates the science that God granted us the reason to understand, that preaches judgment and rejection instead of freedom and acceptance.

Evangelicals have abandoned Christ's teachings. I pray that God forgives them their pride and their cruelty.

Not hardly. Science that says God did not create humans as it says in Genesis is not science but philosophy. Calling out sin for what it is --homosexuality and adultery, is not being proud and cruel it is pointing out the truth.

Look, we are not going to get along. You have something wrapped over your head, and your mind is sunk too deep in some kind of secular mud. You and I will never agree. It is pointless to even argue. My mind is not going to change and neither is yours. Let us just drop it at that. Think all you want about Evangelicals who take what Jesus said seriously about sin and repentance. Say all you want, believe them to be stupid redneck rubes or what have you. But in this election, Evangelical blacks, whites, Asians, Hispanics, Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, non-denominational, and all the rest have voted for their interests and there is nothing you can do to change that for the next 2 to 8 years.

In your pride, you arrogate to yourself that which rightly belongs to God. Your pride is your sin. Whoever hath proud eyes and a haughty heart, him I will not endure.

Jesus didn't talk about homosexuality. In fact, he rarely talked about adultery. In fact, he sat with prostitutes and sinners. His predominant message -- the stuff he talked about the MOST -- was helping your neighbor, not judging your neighbor.

I voted for Trump because Pence was on the ticket. It was necessary. The end justifies the means.

I cannot control another person's fidelity but I can influence politics with my vote which I have done brilliantly. Trump best represented the kind of country I want to live in. I am not answerable for his peccadilloes or past sins. Furthermore, voting for
someone who has sinned (we all have) does not make me a sinner for doing so.

And why did he sit with the prostitutes (both male and female) and sinners? Was it to take off his robe and have an orgy with them, or was it as he said: to heal the sick and call sinners to repentance. He sat with them to tell them that what they were doing is wrong and that there is a better way to live your life which means obeying the commandments of God, that if any one calls upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ that person will be saved. What did he tell the woman at the well, "Drink some water and go screw around with more men who aren't your husband"? No, he told her Go and sin no more.

Think it through, please.

AHAHAHA? We did, did we? Dude I 'only' make 120K a year. Guess at the net worth of the man you elected? And his friends. Oh, this is going to be a fun four years. Never did I think the Tea Party would do a 180 and elect a Manhattan billionaire.

To the person who only makes 120K a year -- you live in a bubble if you think this is a small salary. Get out of Wash DC. In the rest of America, that is a very high salary.

Is it? Have you looked at Trump's tax plan? My HHI is $540K. Trump eliminates the AMT and our tax rate will be reduced. I told my husband and he jumped for joy. Thanks TRUMP!!! Oh, for all you middle class suckers, you don't really get a cut. Trump will literally save me thousands of dollars. No, I don't create jobs, but I will enjoy some extra vacations.

I voted for HRC, but now I'll just take my money and let middle america suffer. I don't care.

Amen.
$400K Hilary voter here.
But thank you middle America. We are looking forward to an extra luxury vacation a year.

Here is a news flash for you...no one cares. Is 400k a lot of money? I have a car that cost 350 k and I voted 3rd party. The thing you do not understand is most of the country is not doing well. No one cares about the first white women becoming president when the water your children drink is filled with lead, you have no saving and you can't afford to send your valedictorian son or daughter to college. Have fun on your vacation...make sure you bully the lady cleaning your room. It will make you feel good! Let them eat cake.

Yep. Well said.

yeah totally. I voted Clinton but it seems many of my fellow travelers have not absorbed the learnings from this election. The Democratic party has, incredibly, lost the white working class. Obama's charisma created a short term blip that masked the long term trend. If we are the socially-minded people that we say we are, we need to empathize with our fellow Americans who are hurting and support Trump's efforts to stimulate job creation for them, assuming he actually presents a plan.

Nope Hillary won by close to 2 Million votes. Even the fake EC win is by barely winning 4 states by 1%.

I agree that Hillary ran a bad campaign and ignored the pain of the mid western whites who lost factory jobs. But they didn't listen to Hillary's message that will actually help them with retraining, help with community college tuition, better access to healthcare.

Instead they voted for someone that cuts taxes to the wealthy, cut education budget, abolish obamacare and make access to healthcare even worse. THEY HEARD the call of "bring back jobs" BUT didn't ask how, because the trump proposals won't bring back jobs to them. The reality is machines are taking over manufacturing and US has no cards to play against China to bring back the jobs. Even if somehow he threatens companies to get the jobs back, the move will raise the cost of goods consumed by the same voters and inflation will raise, companies will layoff. Back to square one.

As someone who claims to believe in God and Christ don't you believe that Heaven is your home and not this earth?
Doesn't your God and your Christ teach you that your job on earth is to bring people to heaven not make laws that make you more comfortable?
Doesn't your God and your Christ teach you that you are to follow his laws ( meaning no abortions etc for yourselves) no matter the laws of the land?
How are different from the Muslims and others you condemn when you attempt to force your beliefs on everyone through law?

Jesus didn't talk about homosexuality. In fact, he rarely talked about adultery. In fact, he sat with prostitutes and sinners. His predominant message -- the stuff he talked about the MOST -- was helping your neighbor, not judging your neighbor.

You are the one who needs to think it through. What did he do first? Did he call her names and condemn her? But many of the people who claimed to be following the religious teachings ( as you do) did. No.
He met her right where she was and loved her and befriended her.
Secondly he encouraged her to change her ways, but did not try to force her to do so, he showed her a different way, but the choice was hers and that was God. Do you think you are more than your God?

I have thought it through. He never talked about homosexuality being a sin, for one. The reason he sat with the prostitutes is in part because he recognized that they weren't prostitutes because they loved having sex for money. He sat with them because he was trying to tell people to have sympathy and understand that, if anything, the real sinners were the Johns who went to them -- and the Johns were the very same people throwing stones! He sat with them to point out the hypocrisy in other people.

So you spew hatred toward people who are in committed monogamous relationships and want to marry (gay couples who want to be married) but you're totally cool voting for someone who has committed adultery, divorced, etc?
